Solved: Outlook 2003 error
Everytime I try to close Outlook I get a message saying:
The instruction 0x35f844d8 referenced memory at 0x35d5a170. The memory could not be read.
What does this mean and can I get rid of it.
Thank You

Hi Najekomi

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Are you using Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook (version)?
Have you lost any messages since this error started?

Create a new profile in Outlook 2003,

How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003

Start Outlook 2003 with the new profile, close and restart Outlook 2003 to see if the error also occurs in the new profile.

If the error does not occur in the new profile, connect the original Personal Folders (.pst file) to the new profile, close and restart Outlook 2003 to also check for the error.

To connect the original Personal Folders (.pst file) to the new profile:
In Outlook 2003,
File > Open > Outlook Data File
Browse to the location of the .pst file and select it.
The Personal Folders (.pst file) should then appear in Outlook 2003.

Let us know if that makes a difference or not.

The instruction at "0x35f844d8" referenced memory at "0x35d5a170".
Why do we have to create a new profile. This problem started after MS office downloaded
Microsoft.net framework 3.5 (KB951847)x86 and office genuine advantage
notification (KB949810)en-us

Is there another solution? Does anyone know if Microsoft will fix this?

Hi modefour

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

What's wrong with creating a new profile? Sometimes profiles become corrupted.

I'm just not very ggod at that type of thing and when I look at this problem it is all over the web sice the update. My thinking is if the update caused the problem I would be expecting a fix.

If the problem is not fixed in a week or so I'm sure I would give the new profile a go.

Creating a new profile in Outlook is easy and doesn't require downloading updates or patches.

If the updates you downloaded caused the problem, not saying they did or not, everyone would be best served, if you contacted Microsoft and let them know your experience.
That's just my opinion.

Not quite solved :)
hey, hopefully you may be able to help me, i'm also recieving the same error... i tried to create a new profile and that works the first time, but the next time you try to load it the error comes back, without even loading up my old .pst files again... i'm kind of lost here... it seems to be corrupting the .pst files when it closes. i seen the same error posted on an avg forum so it may even be related to that... not sure. made a backup of my (probably corrupted already) .pst files just in case but if you have any ideas that'd be great

I created a new profile, opened and closed Outlook. No problem.
Opened Outlook again and sent a test message to myself.
After receiving the test message, closed Outlook: same problem.

Unchecked all boxes in AVG "E-mail Scanner settings": no improvement.

Anyone got any further with a solution?

(PS: what's a "Trackback"?)

I've had the same problem with Outlook. I tried creating a new profile, as suggested here, but it only worked for 3 launches of the application before the problem returned.

Then I went to the Outlook Add-In manager (Tools/Options/Other/Advanced Options/Add-In-Manager) and found the following 2 entries:

AVG Exchange Extension
Exchange Extensions property pages

I unchecked them both, and Outlook has been running fine ever since. I believe both of these entries are connected with the AVG email scanner, and I only started getting the memory problem after turning the email scanner off a while ago. So I don't know if it was just that, or related to the Windows updates as well.

Anyway, I hope that helps.

Another possible solution
Hello, I found a solution that works for me and with botth options active in outlook

First empty de the "deleted items" folder.
In outlook go to the menu FILE, Management of data file (where info about PST files are), Properties, click on the one you use, Parameters, then click on compress button.
Wait till it is completed.
Shutdown outlook, wait and restart.

This had resolve issue for me.
