Email over LAN
Hi, I am looking to do a small demo of peer to peer networking and email to some scouts, for this I am going to use two computers running XP connected to a basic hub. There is no internet connectivity where I am going to be doing this.
I have read a few things and it seems like a smtp and/or pop3 server needs to be set up on one of the computers, however I have no experience with this and would prefer an alternate method.
If this is the only way does any one know of a program I could use for this, that will be quick and easy to set up, I will only need it for sending a few emails over the LAN so that is all I would need to know how to set up.
Another this I have come across is using the 'net send' command in command prompt, just for my own information, how does this work i.e. how does it compare to email?

thanks

Net send is comparable to instant messaging--it is immediate.

Setting up email seems like a heck of a lot of work and trouble for a small demo. Just what do you really expect to accomplish with it? If you have an email client (Thunderbird, Outlook Express, etc.) with some email messages already stored you don't need internet access or actual receipt/send to demonstrate how to read the email, reply to it, compose a new message, etc.

I suppose you are proably right, I need to check up on what they actually need to do with emails, I was hoping there would be a easy workaround to address mails to local comps but if a server is the only way it will prob be too much hastle
