Internet explorer problem!!
Ive just installed windows XP over Millienium. Everything was going okay but now I have a problem with Internet Explorer 6.

I can get online and have IE6 open in one window and surf fine through that window but as soon as I open either windows explorer or another IE6 window, XP comes up with a error message saying:

Internet Explorer had to shut down, Sorry for the incovenience.

Then desktop refreshes itself closes all windows and loads back up to normal startup. Im then still connected to the net as normal. Its very annoying as I can only have one window open when connected to the net. If I open anything it just does the above. Can anybody help?

Hi there - Have you tried the Repair Option with Internet Explorer?

Double click "My Computer", "Control Panel", then "Add/Remove Programs". Click on "Microsoft Internet Explorer" then hit the Add/Remove button. Choose the "Repair" option listed there.

IE Repair isn't included in IE 6.0 in Windows XP.

The only alternative is running SFC /Scannow from the Run box.

If no joy, here's a MS article:

IS there anything else that can be done about this problem. I have the same exact problem. I tried SFC /Scannow but that didn't work. I also did an edit to the registry but that didn't work either. I don't want to reisnstall Xp cause its a pain in the butt to find all the drivers for my sound and video card.

Here's a couple of shots...

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q281849

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q293623

Hit the "click here" tab and see exactly what module is faulting:

========

Install and run Ad-Aware to get rid of Comet Cursor or any other ad or spyware that might be causing the problem:

Installing and Running Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoft.nu/

1. Download to a convenient folder the installation file:

http://www.wyvernworks.com/Lavasoft/aaw.exe

2. Download the Refupdate installation file:

http://www.jamcomputerservices.com/l.../refupdate.exe

3. Run the Ad-Aware setup file (aaw.exe) to install Ad-aware and reboot.

4. Run the refupdate.exe installation file. Go to Start Menu>Programs and find the Lavasoft Refupdate entry and run it. It will want a connection to the internet to check and update the current signature file. When that is complete. Run Ad-aware itself.

5. Configure Ad-aware to scan all drives on which you have installed programs, memory and registry. When the scan is complete, check all entries it finds, click "Backup" and then "Finish". Reboot afterwards.

{ps. if you can't open those links in a new window, you can right click on them and "copy shortcut" then paste them into the address bar.}
