no sound online
Hi,
I have an hp a 705w desktop running windows xp.We have used it for about 3 years now without any major problems.About two weeks ago it would not boot into windows,it just kept doing the bios check then when it came to the welcome windows screen it started over at the bios check again repeatedly.I got it started in safe mode then using the go back feature I restored it to 2 years ago.Now it works, but when I am online,it has no sound.I tried using the help function built into xp,it says there is no problem with the driver.I reinstalled it anyway, even looked for an updated one, still no change. It will play cd's and I can hear sound, and it makes the windows open and close and error sounds.I also tried firefox and internet explorer,no sound on either. Please help,I can't afford a new computer! jim

Make this registry change. If it doesn't work, you can always change it back.

Click on Start, Run, type regedit.

Go to the following registry folder:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\NodeCLSIDs\{95037DA1-6ED9-4B27-8CFF-9AD3DFB0B2F2}]

Double click on 'Auto Insert' in the right pane.

Change the Value from "1" to "0" and click OK.

this happened with my laptop and maybe something was changed in the volume settings. I suggest fiddling around with volume control IE setting it at different levels on different platforms or if worse comes to worse maybe you blew out the speakers on your computer
