Exclamation Internet COOKIES issue - PLEASE reply!
I really hope I receive some replies to this thread--I have viewed a few other posted threads where users described my exact problem, but nobody replied to them (such as --http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/826957-redirecting-problem-my-internet.html-- for example).

This is my issue--when I visit certain websites, I have one of of 3 problems, and I'm guessing they are related.

1) The website does not display properly. Areas on the page that normally have content just appear blank. I have tried to update applications on my PC that may affect this (such as Flash and JAVA), but nothing has worked. There aren't even any errors at the bottom of the browser (and I've used SEVERAL different browsers to no avail)--it says "done" as if everything loaded. If I get on a friend's PC, usually I can view the site just fine, so its something wrong with my system.

2) I am redirected whenever I attempt to log in. I will put in my issued username and passwords perfectly, but when I submit them, I am redirected BACK to the login page everytime! This happens to me on sites like YouTube. And again, when I login on another PC, it works just fine.

3) The website will tell me that I do not have cookies enabled--even though my browser settings indicate that I do have them enabled! I have downloaded 3 different browsers (IE8, FireFox, and Safari) and I have followed the directions for enabling cookies on EACH ONE, and I still have the same problem.

I really think it may be a cookies issue, because of problem #3. Please help me, as I do a lot of freelance digital work from home and I must access these sites...and I hate having to keep traveling to get to other computers to access them. PLEASE HELP

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! THIS SITE WAS A WONDERFUL IDEA!

With Firefox it should be easy.

But if your blocking the java script it will say you need it to set cookies still. Sometimes just reloading the page works to clear things. Other time you need to start over and try again.

So you got to remember so sites the cookies with not work or work right unless the java script can run.

Thank you for replying. I agree...I believed I was blocking javascript in some way, or I needed to update it, which is why I tried updating it. But I did and the problem persists. I've tried reloading the pages as you suggested, but it didn't effect anything. I even restarted my browser (Firefox is the one I normally use) several times, and it still happens.

So I guess the big questions is: How can I unblock javascript if it appears to be blocked?? With Firefox, I have followed the steps below, and STILL, the problem pesists...

Mozilla Firefox
  1. Select 'Tools' from the top menu
  2. Choose 'Options'
  3. Choose 'Content' from the top navigation
  4. Select the checkbox next to 'Enable JavaScript' and click OK
I've run out of ideas! What else can I do?

If you are still using Firefox 1.5 you are at risk from a number of security issues (the latest version is 3.11), but I assume the old version could not be the cause of your problem if other browsers exhibit the same symptoms.

JavaScript (unlike Sun Java) is not a separately installed program but usually comes in the form of a plugin in your browser (at least it does in IE, Firefox and Opera - I don't know about Safari).

You can check if JS is working, (and which version is installed) by going here with each browser in turn; http://www.javatester.org/ Click on the orange 'JavaScript' box on the left hand side of the page and, if JS is working, a box will open confirming it and specifying the JS version number and browser name (2.1 and Opera in my case). IE 7 is using JS 1.3 and Firefox 3.11 has JS 1.8.

If the tests are negative it's possible that the browser settings need adjustment or you have some other software preventing JS fom running eg: some toolbars or the NoScript extension in Firefox.

Thanks for replying.

I did go to http://www.javatester.org/javascript.html with Firefox 3.0.11, as you suggested. When I ran the test, it concluded that my Javascript WAS working and that my browser supports Javascript 1.8.

And yet, still can't login to sites like YouTube.com and VistaPrint.com. YouTube will still redirect me back to the homepage when I submit login information, and VistaPrint still tells me that my cookies are not enabled in my browser.

I even ran my CA Internet Security virus & spyware scans, and no threats show up. What is going on here?

This is still a problem for me.........

What site are you having trouble with?

What other programs do you have to protect you?

I know some other programs you may have to put a site in the trust zone like with Online Armor under the web site tab.

Hava you been getting a message from You Tube to the effect that 'you do not have java enabled or you need to update Flash player'? This has been a very common problem recently with hundreds of posts here about it.

Was there a specific start point for this problem eg: had you installed or uninstalled anything at the time it started? If you are positive that you have cookies enabled in all your browsers, and we know JS is working in Firefox, the only possibility left would seem to be another program that is blocking things.

I don't have any toolbars but I understand they can include popup blockers etc. I only use the popup blocker built into Opera, so I don't know what programs you should look for on your computer that might be causing your problem.

Start Firefox in safe mode also and if it works then it is one of the ad-ons blocking the java script. You do not need cookies to see things at youtube.
