ok, this is the weirdest problem i have ever encountered. i work in a IT workshop so am a bit experienced with email servers etc but this problem has me stumped. My dad has a laptop that he takes to work, i set up his emails for him at home so he could take it to work, everything was configured correctly. When he is at work he is unable to send messages due a timeout connecting to the outgoing mail server 'mail.optusnet.com.au'. this is the ISP smtp server and works perfectly on all the other computers on the same wireless and wired network at his workplace. So i went down there to see what was going on. If i change the outgoing to the email provider "smtp.thegroceryclub.com.au" this is registered through netregistry it still wont connect to the outgoing mail server. I tried the same with 3 different outgoing servers that work on the other PC's in the workplace with no success.
Then i came across somethign verrrry wierrd if i send an email with body "test" it will go through fine, but if i write more than around a line or two of text the email attempts to send, the bar goes to 100% sending then sits for 60 seconds and give a server timeout message. Has anybody got any idea why this would be happening. To eliminate the network problem i took the laptop home wiht the exact same settings and it will send fine. So it is not a setting in the laptop i am sure. So i am thinking that it is something to do with the router or ISP but why would all of the PC's work but this one with the same settings?
Other things i have tried:
- turning all firewalls off(windows, Anti virus and router)
- setting the outgoing mail server to the ip address of the server if it was a DNS problem
ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: if i log into the webmail service provided by netregistry i get the same issue, small email work but larger text just hangs.
any and all help will be greatly appreciated ot solve this mystery.
Thanks in advance
