some programs cant connect
although firefox works fine, and chrome is bearable (sometimes connects sometimes gives problems) my internet explorer wont connect to the net. neither will google earth, nor will my microsoft widgets, and now skype isnt working.

i followed a whole looong guide that IE opens up when it cant connect, i did everything in there and yet it wont work. it included disbaling all addons, going into safe mode blah blah.

interestingly enough IE works fine when i go into a different user account.

all this was IE7, part of the diagnostic process i ran was upgrading to IE8. still wont work.

can anyone advise? i assume its some kinda firewall but the only thing i have that i can think of is AVG and that isnt doing it (as far as i know).

in case its relevant the way my connection is set up is from ISB to modem to router which then divides it among 3 computers.

thanks
dan

In Control Panel - Internet Options - Connections tab - Settings or LAN Settings - make sure that Proxy is not selected (nothing should be selected).

If AVG means the AVG security suite it is most likely the culprit. If AVG means the anti-virus only it is probably not the cause, but could be if its data definitions are way out of date.

What non-Windows firewall or security suite do you have installed or used to have installed?
