Out of Office Reply
When I send an e-mail from my Dell Inspiron 530 to someone who "is out of office" I do not get that reply. I have sent to 3 different people and never got their message until they returned. What adjustment can I make to my computer to correct this problem? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Out of Office Reply
Hi ozziebeanie:

I did not phrase my question clearly. When I said I only knew the individual was away is when they returned I meant, I only learned of their absence by having a telephone conversation with them. Today my banker's secretary, who has access to his e-mails, called to help with my banking question and was surprised I did get his out of office reply as he did set it up.

Again, many thanks for your help.

Dont think i frased mine clearly either. i meant if he did not down load his/her emails till they returned then if set up on their computer it would go out as far as i know if they are connected to a server it needs to be set up there, i could be wrong hopefully someone else will know.

Hi ozziebeanie:

Thanks for your reply. What I found strange is that I sent to 3 different persons at different companies and did not connect so I thought perhaps it was from my end and maybe a small adjustment (to ???)was all that I needed to make.

Regards.

Ellied, if I understand you correctly, you are sending e-mail messages to people outside your organization and you are not receiving Out Of Office replies from them. Is that correct?

I am not at work right now, so I cannot verify. But I believe there is a difference between people on your network (within your organization) getting the replies, and those that are not.

Since you are outside the network, you may not be getting them. It may have less to do with your machine, than how the people sending the out of office replies have their machines set up.

Hi Drabdr:

Thanks for your enquiry and offer to help. My computer is at my home (personal use only) and I only got it from Dell at the end of February. My previous computers were loaned by a friend and I do not know how she set it up but whenever I sent an e-mail to someone at an office who was not in and had set up the absence message I received it. As I said previously, it seems strange that on 3 occasions (3 different people at 3 different organizations) I did NOT get the message. Any suggestions you have will be appreciated.
Regards

Have you checked your spam or junk or whatever folder to make sure your email provider or email client is not seeing those auto-replies as junk mail?

Hi TerryNet:

Wow - Techguy website is the best. Thanks TerryNet for your questions and trying to help me. From my e-mail folder I am able to see messages in the usual lists (sent, outbox, drafts, deleted) plus - subfolder - "McAfee Anti-Spam" (when received, they are in bold) and I am able to open and read another subfolder "Junk E-mail" same situation.

Regards

Good! You found it! Are there any Out of office replies sent from other people to you in that Junk e-mail/Spam box?

No, there are no Out of office replies in either folder. McAfee is very rigid and attaches [SPAM] to the e-mail and puts it the Anti-Spam folder as it is received. Junk E-mail folder the same thing occurs.
Thanks

Interesting....

Are the people who send these e-mails: are other people receiving their auto replies?

I am certainly not an expert on this, but I thought I remember having an option who receives the replies (in the network; outside the network).

I am only aware of one person whose message was received by others. The other two were surprised when I mentioned that I was not aware of the absence but I did not ask if others received the message. I have had a look at Tools-Options to see what boxes had an X but all seem to ok, at least in my opinion. Thanks again for all your help.

Regards.
