Solved: saving AOL contacts to reinstall os
Afternoon all, I have to wipe and rreinstall a friends xp system, I've managed to collect and save out all the usual bits,, itunes, piccies, general bric-a-brac etc., BUT I'm baffled by AOL's contacts list, where is it, and more importantly, how do I get it off the system so that I can put it back once I've done the install and updates. It's driving me nuts, I,ve googled but even google was less than forthcoming (it's getting worse). Help

aol version is aol9vr it has no export function that I can find

The best way to help someone I have found is to show them how to look up their own questions

Using a search engine makes life very much more bearable

Google> type

AOL Help

In the list, I went to the main help page

http://help.aol.com/help/microsites/microsite.do

Click the Email icon in this section>...."Help for AOL Products & Services"

Then, down the page a bit....To "Other Learning Articles:"

Click on "Using AOLŪ Address Book"

Then, go to "Address Book Availability" and read down a bit and you find>

Address Book Availability
The AOLŪ service stores the Address Book online, so your AOL Address Book goes wherever you go. You can view and edit contact information for people you know even when you are not signed on. When you sign on as a Guest, your AOL Address Book is right there where you need it. Just click the Mail menu, then click Address Book to get started.
In AOLŪ 6.0 or higher, your Address Book is stored on the AOLŪ server. This feature is similar to your Buddy List window, which is located on your AOLŪ server and not your computer. With this added feature, you no longer need to save or backup your Address Book. Even if your computer system crashes, all your Address Book information will be available once you sign on to the AOL service.

Which means you do not have to back up their Contacts that are in the AOL email address book

If you meant any other email client this does not apply. Buddies are also kept online with AOL, and they re-appear automatically when you reload the computer and then install AOL again.....

THANK YOU Byteman, I tried googling using roughly the phrase at the beginning of my cry for help, which produced various weird answers usually exhorting me to part with money, which I am fairly adverse to. Not ever having used Bottoms on line I had no idea it was all stored online. You would think they would mention it on their help pages.
Again many thanks.
