The folder your looking for should be in the Application Data folder.
The full address should look like this.
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express with the GUID being a long string of random numbers and letters.
Is that like what you copied?

Hi throoper,

Ok i have found it and completed all instructions as you told me to, i have just manually compacted all folders in OE, opened and closed OE a few times, checked the Compact check count and its still on 0 in the registry editor accessed by REGEDIT. Shall i keep my eye on it and just remember to compact at regular intervals?? aslo shall i close dowm Registry Monitor as all is working fine now apart from the check count?? also i notice i have about 9000 emails in archive folders should i delete some of these or can i transfer them out of OE.

Good. No mail loss from the Compact?
Did it reduce the size of some of the DBX files in the Message Store folder (so we'll know the compact really did compact)? Also on that, did Compacting send BAK files to the Recycle bin? You don't need them for a backup, but it's a good indicator of if the compact process is working properly.

If the manual Compact works, and it's not a problem for you to remember to do it, you might be as well off leaving it like that. A lot of people would kill to disable the automatic compacting. Plus a side effect of SP3 is that sometimes the automatic compact doesn't fully do all DBX files and you have to do them manually anyway.

The alternative would be to try a new Identity and/or reregister all the OE program files. That could be a lot of work and some risk with little or no gain. I would say to quit while you're ahead unless the Check Count goes haywire again or another problem pops up.

You're done with Regmon. I'd hang onto it, though, as it's a handy program to have.

The archive folders are your call. Having the DBX files for them is basically the same as having them archived. Before you remove the archive folders from OE, GO HERE and get the viewer so you can check that the DBX files are valid and readable. You can use that to get access to the messages in the DBX archive files without the need to place them back in OE.
Anything else or does that cover it?

Hi throoper,

Yes it did reduce the size of DBX files and did send BAK files to the recycle bin. I will compact manually and keep a check on the Compact check count. I have down loaded MailView so i can now clean up OE archives and use the viewer if i need to look at old emails.

I cant thank you enough throoper, your instructions for sorting things out are always clear and precise and you never ever give up, many thanks and if i could send a beer via email you would be first on the list, thanks again and you have made my day stress free now.
