Exclamation Connected But Not Connected
On my pc only IE8 and a few other apps can connect to the internet. I've only got windows security and I've tried turning it all off.

For example google chrome installer gives this error message.
Installation failed. Ensure that your computer is connected to the internet and that your firewall allows GoogleUpdate.exe to connect and then try again. Error code = 0x80072efd.

I'll include screen shot.

Also TVersity Simply Says

Error!
Unable to connect to internet!

I'll include screenie for that as well.

Please describe your network.

If you are connecting via Wi-Fi, have you tried ethernet? Results?

If you are connecting through a router have you tried a direct connection to the modem? Results?

Did you ever have a non-Windows firewall or security suite on the computer? If so, which?

Make sure you have the latest correct network driver.

I'm connected directly to my combined router and modem that sky gave with their broadband. And yes I did have a security suite. Norton security, it came free with my computer. Then it ran out. It was very stubborn, it wouldn't uninstall with windows or it's own installer. I had to uninstall it with smarty uninstaller. Obviously it still left traces behind because windows security center says under Malware Protection:
Not Compatible o
Virus Protection
Norton Internet Security is on but is reporting its status to windows security center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the programs automatic updating feature, or contact the program manufacturer for an updated version.
Show me my availible options.

I'll include a screenshot as well.

You want to use Symantec's Norton Removal Tool.

That may not resolve your issue, but it's a necessary step.
