Question Connection Issues
I have a laptop with Vista on it. I have wireless internet and it is connected because I am using it now. However my computer will only allow certain programs access to the internet. Or at least that's what I have assumed is happening.
The only programs that will connect to the internet are IE7, YIM and Windows Live Messenger. No other programs will connect with the internet connection. There are always error messages.
Some programs I can't use are, Firefox, IE8, AIM, Skype, Itunes(store), Windows Media Player. Basically anything else that uses the internet for part of the program, I can't use those features.
Not even my Windows Help and Support center can connect to the internet. I can't download certain windows updates, or updates for programs,(eg. Flash Player, Adobe)
I have tried many many solutions suggested online on various site, and I need some specific help. Please!
Any suggestions?

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

Your log shows traces of PC Tools. Some antivirus or anti-spyware programs will cause various conflicting issues when not properly uninstalled. This is particularly true from Norton.

Follow these steps to try removing all traces of PC Tool:

PC Tool Removal

If no luck,

Try booting in Safe Mode with Networking. Try a few of your programs or updates that weren't properly functioning.

If you have gained control again with this method, run a Clean Boot to narrow it down to a culprit.

If still no luck,

Refresh your DNS by following these steps:

Click Start > Run > type CMD

In the command prompt, type:

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /renew

(one at the time)

Reboot.

If no joy,

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 or SP3.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

First of all thanks for replying, I forgot to mention that.
So I did the first method and nothing improved.
I tried the "safe mode with networking" and none of the programs worked either.
Then I tried the DNS refresh and these are the results, I don't quite know what they mean.

I did not try the last method because I have vista and that said it was for xp, so I didn't know if I should try it.

Also when I tried starting Firefox i got the error i always get, here it is if it helps:

Ok well bad news. I tried both of those methods, i executed them sucessfully however still nothing is different. I tried a few programs that had errors before and they still will not connect to the internet.
I did get rid of the PC tools, but that didn't fix the internet connection problems.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for taking so much time to help me.

Smile internet issue
i suggest the advanced networking services are blocking the website.
i would ask you to click on start--->>>click on Run--->>>type services.msc and hit enter--->>> services window will open and have list of items on the left hand side--->>> check for advanced networking services--->>>right click on it and click on properties--->>> another window will open and we need to disable the startup type option--->>> restart the computer and try connecting to couple of websites.....

Lightbulb internet issue
I would also suggest to uninstall IE 8 from the Add or Remove Programs under Control Panel....
If there is any browser corruption it would take you to IE 7 which will help accessing all the websites...
If not you may uninstall IE 7 as well....

Thank You...

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried changing some options under the network services, but it did not help the access for any programs.
Also it's not websites that I have an issue with it is programs that cannot access my internet connection.
I do not have IE8 installed because it would not connect to the internet. Only IE7 will and I can't even install the security update for IE7 or else it will not connect either. :/

Is your antivirus (Norton) able to update?

Have you tried running the free versions of SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware ?
