Outlook express emails won't display in Gmail
I use Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP and all emails I send to gmail.com accounts are appearing as blank with 'noname' attachments.

How can I fix this problem? It only started happening suddenly

You could use IMAP rather the POP when setting up the account in your email client.

Here is a good article I found.

@ kfletch

Try sending a test message from the GMail account to your account in outlook express, then reply to that message once it arrives in your inbox. See if it arrives as a normal message or if it shows up the same way at the GMail account.

If it shows the same way when replying, try sending a message from your webmail site. If your ISP or email account provider does not have a webmail interface you can always check from www.mail2web.com.

I would suggest sending a test message to yourself and to see if it arrives the same way, If it does, you may want to speak with the internet service provider just in case.

If you send the message or reply to the test GMail message successfully from webmail it could be a corrupt email account or corrupt email client. I suggest recreating the email account first and if that doesn't work to try reinstalling or replacing outlook express.

Many thanks for your advise. I think I have done the configuration correctly, because I sent from Gmail to Outlook Express, and it arrived, and then I just added something to the subject line to diffrentiate it from what I recieved, and sent it as a reply back to Gmail, and it arrived. Eureca! Now please advise me the sequnce of 'clicks' to follow in order to transfer all my folders,as well as lose individual emails, to Gmail.

You can't send OE folders to gmail. You'd have to create a folder
at gmail and then when your emails arrive, move them to that folder.
You can only send 1 email at a time to gmail from OE.

What is your objective in sending emails to your gmail account?
If you are trying to save a backup of your emails maybe
something else would be a better plan?

Transfer OE forlders to Gmail
The first reason for wanting to transfer my OE folders to Gmail is to have access to all of them when I am away, which OE does not permit me to do in a direct way.Secondly, I have virtualy unlimited MB for storage. As to your comment about folders, it is no problem to create a folder at Gmail, but if I have 20 emails banched together in my EXISTING folder at OE, are you saying that I would need to move them out of the folder one by one to send to Gmail, and then "regroup" them in a Gmail folder? This is monumental!
Thank you for sharing your further thughts to solving my dilemma.

Well, yes...the problem is that the emails in OE do not exist, per se.
OE is a database program. The emails are visible in OE only through
the dedicated database.

The emails are stored as data in .dbx files on your hard drive, which is
where OE gets the information and assembles them to make them
appear as emails.

(Don't attempt to open a .dbx file - they corrupt easily. It would be
meaningless anyway, it is all compiled non-readable code).

You can extract the emails both from OE or from the .dbx files as .eml
files. To the best of my knowledge, Gmail can't read an .eml file. It has
to be sent from OE. You would not be able to just grab an .eml file and
place it on the gmail inbox. That would be easy, just create a folder full
of .emls on your desktop and drag it over to gmail. But it won't work.

You could create a new email and attach 20 old emails to it and send it
to gmail - but at gmail there is no way to split the attachments apart. You
would have an email with 20 attachments sitting in the gmail inbox.

That only leaves you with the ability to send them one at a time to gmail.

You can import emails from some providers, see this article/list:
Importing contacts and mail - Gmail Help:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...&answer=117173

So, if by chance all your emails are still sitting on a server, in addition to
sitting in OE, that might work for you.

Don't post your email address here, it would leave you open to spam robots.
But what is the email provider? The part after the @ symbol? Is it a gmail
address? If not are you going to switch to a gmail address for all future
emails?

If all your emails, in the future, were from a gmail address, then you could
tell OE to leave copies on the gmail server - so you wouldn't have to upload
any in the future. And then still be able to have them in OE as well.

When you travel, does that computer have OE too? If so, you can synch
them. This link is for a program you have to purchase - but you might be
able to find freeware.

Transfering folders and email from OE to Gmail
But what is the email provider? I USE @VERIZON.NET WHICH MOVES MY EMAILS TO OE. The part after the @ symbol? Is it a gmail address? If not, are you going to switch to a gmail address for all future emails? EXACTLY MY WISH.

If all your emails, in the future, were from a gmail address,NO, I WISH TO SEND THEM THERE FROM VERIZON/OE then you could tell OE to leave copies on the gmail server - so you wouldn't have to upload any in the future.YES, BUT HOW TO TRANSFER ALL THOSE EXISTING FOLDERS AND LOSE EMAILS FROM OE TO GMAIL? And then still be able to have them in OE as well.

When you travel, does that computer have OE too? NO, BUT I GO ONLY TO VERIZON TO READ, BUT NO ACCESS TO OE. If so, you can synch them. This link is for a program you have to purchase - but you might be able to find freeware.
THANKS FOR YOUR FURTHER INPUT.

That sounds like you are asking again? You can't transfer folders from OE.
The emails would have to be forwarded one at a time to gmail.
If you forward an email to gmail, you still retain a copy and there will be one
in your sent items folder as well.

When you switch to gmail, you can setup a gmail POP3 account in OE in
addition to your Verizon account, if you want to.

OE to Gmail via Verizon ?
You mention that you can't transfer OE folders to Gmail, but does that apply to transfering them to my account at Verizon, from where they may be transfered to Gmail?

You can make up new folders outside of OE but you cannot
send folders from OE to anywhere.

OE & others
Maybe rhetorical, but )1.) why does Microsoft do that restriction? (2.) Why aren't we so informed before designating OE as a place to store emails? (3.) Can I open a folder at OE, highlight/copy all the files, then paste them in Gmail individualy, or directly/together to a new folder/label there?

It's not a restriction of Microsoft. You chose to use an email client.
If you knew that you wanted to move emails from Verizon to Gmail
at the beginning, then you would have told OE to leave a copy on
the server. However, Verizon, way back when, did not have unlimited
server space (probably doesn't have unlimited server space now). So
that wouldn't have worked either. So, ultimately, it is no one's fault.

There is no easy way of getting emails to servers.

As to your #3 - no. Because gmail can only receive emails that are
sent as emails. Far as I know, no webmail will recognize .eml files.
