Internet Cookies, need the TRUTH
On my partners computer (uses windowsXP Vista) at the end of every day he scans with super ant (spy ware) and then Trend Pro for viruses, lastly he uses C_CLeaner when the cookies for deletion come up it shows Yahoo & Meebo BUT he says he has never been on these sites could the cookies be there if he hasnt??? OR alternatively if he logs on to MSN hotmail but it manages the other emails accounts through it, would the cookies show up then???? PLEASE HELP

It is possible he got the Yahoo cookies through Yahoo advertisements or services that have been embedded in other sites. As far as I know, though, you would have to visit Meebo to get a cookie from that site.

I'll have to agree with Eriksrocks. I don't believe you can get Meebo cookies that easily. I have never gotten Yahoo! cookies without visiting Yahoo! or Yahoo! Mail first either...

I never get any cookies unless I want them.

Most do not know how to take over control of the cookies.
The default setting and just blocking 3rd party cookies is not taking control.

You want to go by the Exceptions list rules.
The list will have "Allow", "Allow for Session" and "Block"
I use Firefox and I use the Exceptions list only.
The cookie setting in options I have uncheck so get NO cookies from any site unless they are listed in the "Exceptions list" and it goes by one of these 3 rules..."Allow", "Allow for Session" and "Block"
Block is only needed if you block some other cookies from the same site and that takes a little more work that most will not know how to do so will not tell you.
But once you get the rules setup your never get cookies from any other site unless they are allowed so that means on the list.
All other cookies are blocked by default and will not get added to the "Exceptions list" as blocked like I bet they do now and your "Exceptions list" can get very very big because you got 100's or 1000's of sites listed with most added to the block list.

Browser Configuration
Intro to Browser Privacy & Security
Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox
Netscape Communicator
Netscape 7.0
Opera 6.0/7.0
AOL Preferences

Get CookieSafe and CookieCuller that is good to put cookies on a protected list. I have it's icon on the toolbar and before going to another site I will delete the techguy session cookies.
I only keep and I could make it less but keep cookies for only 12 web sites.
The Exceptions list as 48 sites I Allow list, 20 on the block list and 45 on the session list.
I do not need to change the list because it has all the sites I need listed and the rights I want.
If I do not need to join and can only get something to work at a site if I allow them to set a cookie then I use cookie safe, temp cookie. This does not get added to the Exceptions list and I clear it before going to another site.

Then a good Hosts file that you keep updated will help even more to stop cookies.

Also with Firefox get NoScript because if you block the java script most sites will not be able to set a cookie.

I had to add a copy cookies to the hosts file that are from Microsoft that I could not stop any other way even with blocking all cookies in IE.
onlinestores.metaservices.microsoft.com
www.onlinestores.metaservices.microsoft.com
That cookies would get set anytime WMP was use.
Then I block others from MS, Google but not going to list them.

It seemed to me that it was a concern of it being a mal-ware issue.
Hewee's method would certainly answer that question.

Ericksrocks,

While we do allow links to web sites in signatures, including a price is actually advertising which is against the rules. Would you please amend your signature accordingly. Thanks.
