 | Member with 31 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | Solved: having to log in every time I restart Firefox Hi. I was hoping someone could help me figure out why I have to log in to certain sites every time I restart my browser. Until recently, I would stay logged into these sites (for example this one, photobucket, my email account) yet inexplicably I always stay logged into a knit and crochet site I belong to.
I’m using Firefox v3.0.15. Under Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies, I “accept cookies from sites” and “keep until they expire”. Under private data, “always clear my private data when I close Firefox” is unchecked. “Ask me before clearing private data” is checked. So I’m unsure why it thinks I want to log in every time I restart Firefox. I also cleared my cache and all private data.
This started about two weeks ago and it’s getting a little frustrating. The sites usually remember my username/password, but I still have to log in every time. Any ideas? | | Distinguished Member with 5,916 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Experience: Intermediate | | In Firefox, Tools> Options> Security / Passwords> make sure Remember passwords for sites is checked. Also click on Exceptions and make sure your sites are not listed. If they are, select the entry and click Remove. | | Member with 31 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | I'm not having a problem with the sites remembering my passwords. My usernames/passwords are saved and usually filled in for me, but I'm kicked off even if I've selected the option to stay logged in for 2 weeks (like yahoo). The exceptions list is blank.
I hope I'm explaining this right. Another example would be tvguide.com/listings. It always used to remember me, but now I have to fill in my zip code and click the correct cable provider every time I visit the site. I have no clue what prompted the change. That's probably your problem. You need to have cookies enabled and keep history for 30 days or so if you don't keep filling in those screens. | | Member with 31 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | Nope. I'm set to accept cookies and keep them until they expire. | | Distinguished Member with 12,766 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: A little of this...a little of that | | What other security software is installed? | | Member with 31 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | AVG Anti-Virus Free, WinPatrol, Spyware Blaster and Web of Trust. Start>Run>type Firefox.exe -P(note the space between exe and -P)>OK. Just follow the prompts, it's very simple.
I noticed your other thread concerning FF not shutting down fully, and a New Profile may solve both issues. | | Member with 31 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | I created a new profile and tested it out by logging into a website, then exiting Firefox, then opening it again. I was still logged into the site, so it seems to have worked, but what about all of my bookmarks and settings? Is there a way to transfer everything over to the new profile, or would that cause the problem to come back?
The hang at exit thing seems to have gone away too, but I'm not sure it wasn't my fault all along, trying to reopen Firefox too soon after I closed it.

#10 | * Find your profile in c:\Documents and Settings\[your XP user name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
* There should be a subfolder there called bookmarkbackups. Find the most recent bookmarks html file in there (usually with a date after the 'bookmarks' bit.
* Copy it to somewhere safe and rename the existing one bookmarks.html.
* Copy it to the default profiles folder (up one level from the bookmarkbackups folder, deleting the existing bookmarks.html file.
* Close Firefox if it's running and launch it. Your old bookmarks should be restored. | | Distinguished Member with 12,766 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: A little of this...a little of that |

#11 | An add-on or setting is what caused the problem. If you copy everything over to the new profile, you'll copy over the problem. Your bookmarks are fine, but I'd be deliberate and selective with add-ons and settings. Or you could go back to the original profile and start disabling things. | | Distinguished Member with 2,064 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2007 Experience: Intermediate |

#12 | You should be safe transferring your Bookmarks.
To do the Passwords:
With Firefox closed, Open the New Profile folder and delete the key3.db and signons3.txt files.
Open the Old Profile folder and copy the key3.db and signons3.txt files, then paste them into the New Profile folder.
Add-ons I would just re-install a couple at a time if you have quite a few. That way if the problems come back, it will narrow down the exact cause.
Same thing for settings. Make gradual changes. | | Member with 31 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2007 Experience: Intermediate |

#13 | Thanks everyone. I think it's solved. I disabled two add-ons from my default profile - Adobe DLM and Daemon Tools Toolbar (I never ever used them) and most sites don't kick me off anymore. | | Member with 98 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: Germany Experience: Advanced |
