Angry Internet Explorer will not import Favorites
Running Internet Explorer 6, on Windows XP, SP-3.
Trying to import Favorites. IE says not a valid Bookmarks file.
Same file used on other computer with no problem.
Same file used on problem computer for Firefox. No problem.
Same file used on yet another computer, IE-8, Windows 7. No Problem.

Suggestions?

Try IE7 or IE8. I'm just guessing that maybe there is something in the file that the ancient IE does not know anything about.

IF you do not have any favorites on the XP, IE6...

You can go to your favorites folder from one of the other
computers with Internet Explorer and just copy the entire
favorite folder to a flash drive and then write it to the XP.

But if you do have other favorites there already on the XP,
this method will overwrite the exisiting ones, if it is the
identical file/folder structure.

If you do have favorites there and care to experiment, just
to see if the new list of favorites does work in IE6, you
can move all the files in your existing favorite folder to a
temporary folder. Then move the new list in - check to see
if it works. If not, then delete the new list and move the
old list back where it was.

Well, Terry. I was afraid of that, but I wanted to go the IE-8 because of their multiple TAB capability, so I just did it. Other than that any real benefits are well hidden from me.

Anyway, thanks.

VistaRookie,
Well I tried that early on, but started getting all sorts of nasty-grams, so reverted, broke down and loaded IE-*.
Thanks anyway.
