Internet Explorer 7 - Windows XP SP3
On signing on to my windows live hotmail mail account I see my mail boxes for about
10 seconds and then internet explorer 7 closes down.
This happens after repeated attempts

All other web sites tried google etc behave normally and internet explorer 7 does not close down .
I have tried virus scans , spyware scans , internet explorer 7 without addons , resetting internet explorer , optimising internet explorer 7 etc. to no avail.

Everything is normal on my friends lap top computer which uses windows Vista.

I have always assumed that hotmail ( now Windows Live Hotmail ) is entirely web based and does not require any software on my computer to operate.

Any suggestions please ?

Regards

You've gone through all the steps I can think of...

Have you tried another browser like Firefox? Or even upgrading to IE8?

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure. Just going with the next logical step in troubleshooting. Also you're using IE7 with a Microsoft site, it may be that the site is designed with IE8 in mind.

Hello Snakeeyes

Please note that this problem only occured a couple of days ago.

Hotmail worked normally with internet explorer 7 before that.

Like I said, I'm not sure what the issue is exactly. Just trying to see if it affects other applications. If it does, it means its something with the overall PC; an addon, a plugin, other software, etc. If it does not effect the other web browsers, it narrows it down to IE7.

Do you receive an error after IE7 shuts down? Or does the program just quit without even a "Send Error Report" message.

Only thing I can suggest is that you try IE8 ...
