try disabling any add ons you have from the Tools menu and see if that helps

IE problems
I tried that with the tools and the add ons but it is still giving me fits. I get the message every time I go to a website and now I got it when I tried to answer an email. It is the message that says. Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and will have to close. Then it pops up again, then closes again and then there is a page that asks if I want to try to return to the "Tech guy" or to the home page. Very strange.

how about upgrading to IE8? that could help
another thought, have you run a spyware scan? if not I'd suggest you use Malwarebytes and perhaps Superantispyware

Hi Bob, I guess what works for some doesn't work for others, I still think a malware scan should be done as a means of elimination

Does anyone know a safe malware? I have heard some scary tales about some of them. I did run Norton and they "fixed" something they found but it didn't fix IE. I switched over to Firefox and maybe I will just stay there. Does anyone know the pros and cons about that? Thanks for the help.

download and run the free version of malwarebytes, it's highly recommended by many members here

IMO, Firefox is better than IE so indeed you should stay with it.

OK, I am going to do it. Although, I did go back to IE 7 and I haven't given it a try yet. So much rebooting. I will let all know if that fixed the problem though. I might just stay with Firefox. Thank you.

try them both and see which suits your needs best, I prefer FF as I really like some of the add ons, smileys etc, it's just a matter of choice

I think you might be right. I have both now . I uninstalled IE 8 and went back to IE7 but it is still much slower than Firefox. I might be able to put "solved" on this problem but I am going to wait til tomorrow. Thanks for the input.

Well, at least IE isn't closing the webpage any more. I guess IE8 was not right for my computer.

it works for some, the first time I upgraded to IE8 it didn't work for me but since I've re installed XP it seems ok though I only use it when absolutely necessary
