Windows Live Mail
Hello. This is my first post in this forum, so hope I'm doing this right. (Although there was a message during registration that said the email is already in use here on the forum, but I couldn't find in my email archive anything from tech support guy.)

Anyway...my question is about Windows Live Mail. How do I set the application to not show emails from other accounts than the one I'm logged in as? (This is not an important issue at all for me since I am the only one using this computer, not to mention this user account on the computer (in Windows XP). However, it just seems rather daft how I'm viewing other email accounts' emails in the Live Mail application, and I wish to turn that feature off just so I don't have to experience it, since stuff that seems silly to me kind of reduces the quality of my day. :-)

Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Do you mean Windows Live Mail the downloadable application, or Windows Live Mail the website?

noblelord, and Buspass, thank you both for replying.

Your tip would solve this in a way, Buspass, but the perfect solution would be if I could have the application connected to several accounts and still only show the folders and e-mails of the one I am actually logged in to at any given time. This may not be possible, though? Just seems to me it would be natural, unless Microsoft very strictly considers that no one other than the Windows user account owner should be accessing the computer when the account is logged into. Perhaps that is precisely what they mean, though.

Anyway, thanks again, very much. I appreciate the responses.

Are you possibly confusing Windows User Accounts with email accounts? When you use an email client such as Windows Live Mail you are effectively "logged into" all the email accounts you have defined. There is no relationship between any of those email accounts and your Windows User Account.

TerryNet, thanks for replying. No, I'm aware of the difference between the accounts. I haven't checked the box for saving the password, in the Live Mail application, which means I have to enter the password to send and receive new emails. But the folders are still visible, without entering the email account password. This is what I find strange.

But maybe it's because I mistake the email client as more similar to a web browser, I mean having the web browser doesn't mean all the mails are visible -- unless you know the password to the email account. But, then, in the mail *application* the folders and mails are visible even before entering the account password. But, like I say, I suppose it's just that I don't understand what the mail application is supposed to be. I still think my view makes some sense, though. That the mails should be all visible (even those that aren't really stored on the harddrive, but are actually only in the Hotmail/Live Mail online account). I suppose there's no 'solution' to what I would prefer, since the app just isn't what I assumed.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion. I should acknowledge that I have never looked at Windows Live Mail, so my comments are general in nature here.

I too am puzzled why the messages would be visible before the password is given if they are really not on the hard drive. In other words I would expect already downloaded messages to be there, but not new ones. That is the way Thunderbird works.

Thunderbird is, as far as I know, more a normal email client like for example Outlook or Outlook Express. Outlook Express can't be used with Hotmail/Live Mail any longer, although it was possible before. So now it's just for normal pop mail (which I guess is the normal type of email).

Since mails are visible in the Live Mail application, I suppose they are in some way on the harddrive, but since this is webmail (of course you're more or less familiar with Hotmail) the mails are really online, and are supposed to be online. So that's why I, too, wouldn't expect access to them without logging in.

I don't use WLM nor have I ever seen it. WLM doesn't have
identities like Outlook Express but you should have separate
Inboxes for each account. TerryNet mentioned Thunderbird,
and I also noticed other comments that Thunderbird still has
identities similar to Outlook Express.

This thread seems to explain the problem you are having, see
if anything here will help.

Not sure why Microsoft wants to confuse everyone with
the Live series of programs. But there are differences.

WLM is not webmail. Windows Live Mail is a full desktop
email client and not related to Windows Live Hotmail.
You can setup a Hotmail account in WLM if you wish and
the emails will be stored on your computer.
