its worth checking them all out, make sure it is exactly as required by the email ISP , - incase the antivirus has changed them

what firewall / secruity program do you have - exit that
what antivirus do you have - exit that

just as a test to ensure not blocking the email

cant send email?
i use windows live mail with firefox browser. lately i cannot send email. i can receive ok.
this is only on my laptop. it works fine on my desktop. i have checked in account settings to see if both computers have same settings & they do!
I get an error message when I try to send the messages. the messages all go to the outbox & stay there!
they are not large messages or any with attachments.
any ideas?
it USED to work fine!

that error means that your asking for SSL when SSL is not supported. go into Windows Mail account settings in outgoing email (SMTP) uncheck "Require SSL"

hmmm, tried that, still it doesnt work!
It seems to be only the pop3 account that has a problem, I also have a hotmail account & that works ok so it cant be the computer.
Everything is set exactly same as my desktop.
Only difference is desktop runs Vista (laptop XP) & desktop is connected with ethernet cable to router while laptop is by wifi.
any other ideas?

pop3 is for incoming, smtp is for outgoing & since you can receive fine, pop3 is not a problem. let me know what email account your setting up? gmail/hotmail.

check if you browse internet from your laptop. Try different email clients like Outlook 2003/2007 etc.

Im trying to get windows live mail to work.
yes I can surf the internet no problem on the laptop.
I can also send/ receive without any problems when using hotmail or other webmail.
the only problem is the outgoing email from windows live mail!
All settings are same as on my desktop except desktop is connected by cable to router not wifi.

try to connect the laptop through cable, & see if the email goes/not. Although I am pretty sure your missed some settings.

I could, but the laptop doesnt have ethernet connection so Id have to get it enabled.
Besides, it USED to work ok! So I dont think its an internet connection issue, the wifi is fast enough to watch streaming video so I dont think speed is a problem, ?
