Cannot open specific website
Hi,

I am unable to access a particular website that many others have no problem accessing. In addition a few days ago I accessed it with no problem.

I contacted the website owner who had their programmers confirm that the website is not down and is working perfectly fine.

So I turned to my ISP ( Comcast) and after chatting with 5 different tech support reps and running the following tests I am still unable to access this website. elertgadget.com.

1. Cleared Cache
2. Tried Firefox & IE
3. Reset my router
4. Reset my entire network
5. Pinged the site = sent 4 packets and lost 4 packets
6. Ran ipconfig/release
7. Ran ipconfig/renew
8. Ran ipconfig/flushdns
9.Ran ipconfig/registerdns
10. Turned off Windows Firewall
11. Added site to approved sites
12. Confirmed with Comcast that they are not blocking this site.
13. Assigned Specific DNS servers.

Comcast tech support at a loss of what else to try. Hoping that someone here can help me as I really need access to this site.

Thanks.

Check your browser settings to make sure you're not using a proxy server.

You can also try accessing the website by typing (or pasting) it in the following Web proxy:

http://anonymouse.org/anonwww.html

http://ask-leo.com/i_cant_access_some_websites_why.html

Reset MTU setting value

Log onto router settings, select Wan settings and change MTU to 1396 (but remember original number in case it doesn't work). Click apply.

If no joy whatsoever, try changing your MAC address with Mac MakeUp.

Cannot access specific website
Thanks for the reply and the suggestions. Forgive me but could you tell me how to check my browser settings to see if the proxy thing is set correctly please.

I downloaded and ran the MTU software but mine had no number at all so I did not know what to change, if to change anything so stepped away from that. I did this on my laptop which is wirelessly connected to the network. Do you think I should have tried it on the desktop that is hard wired to the router and cable modem instead to see what the MTU value is?

I was able to access the website using the anonymouse site so will work with it through there until I find a fix.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me.

For IE, click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings > uncheck everything under "Proxy server".

Also with the anonamouse site I can access the elertgadget website but am unable to login and use it. Any ideas?

Thanks again. I really appreciate you taking the time to try helping me with this pain in the neck issue.

If you haven't found a proxy server in IE, you probably don't have one in Firefox either.

That's the trouble with Web proxies.

Have you tried bypassing the router and connecting directly to the modem with the ethernet cable?

Please click here to download and install version 2.0.2 of the HijackThis Installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > right-click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the Command Prompt, type ipconfig /all

Right-click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the content to the clipboard.

Paste the results in a message here.
