Question Firefox Default/Explorer Force-Battle of Wills
Got these new blasted laptop contraptions [Dell Latitude E6500, Windows 7, 32 bit]...our purchase consultant wants us to use Mozilla Firefox as the default browser. Have an accounting application [through Thomson Reuters] that requires Explorer to launch it, but it can't get around Firefox. Got it to work on mine, but had been so frustrated just started changing things until finally it worked. Sadly, I cannot remember what was changed to allow it, and have looked at just about every option for comparison to no avail. Any suggestions? Any at all? Is there anywhere in these laptops that an icon or link can be setup forcibly to use Explorer exclusively? I've installed and ran the program with Norton on and off, added Coral IE tab to Firefox, ran as administrator...too many things to type here. Please...help!

I must not be understanding something. If the application "requires (Internet) Explorer to launch it" simply open IE and launch the program. No need to make IE the default browser to run it.

Seems that simple, but no. Installed the app through IE as required, but when started from the desktop icon it launches through Firefox, even though installed through IE. That's why I was wondering if there was a way to force the app to launch using IE even though Firefox is the default.

I do not understand "launches through Firefox."

You seem to be indicating that when the application is launched it in turn launches a browser to open a web page.

Correct, and it selects Firefox instead of IE for this one app. The thing is, there is a way to fix it keeping Firefox as the default since I can access things properly on my laptop. All the laptops are identical. I just don't remember what was changed to allow it to work.

I use IE Tab2 with Firefox. Have no idea if that is better or worse than or about the same as the Coral IE tab you are using.

I would launch the application; when Firefox comes up with the page then change it to the IE rendering, and make it "permanent." Theoretically the page would be OK in Firefox then, and subsequent launches would automatically use the IE rendering.

I downloaded the most current IE tab. Silly question, how do you 'render' it? Thanks, by the way, for helping!

After the IE Tab2 is installed there should be a little "Firefox" icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. Hover the mouse pointer over it to see the options, then left click it.

I hope I'm helping, but I'm not so sure.

There is, and tried it - still no luck. If I remember correctly, it was something really simple, thus extremely irritating...and it was a matter of clicking something, adding a permission somewhere, something like that. Could have sworn it was in Norton, but cannot see it. That's what happens when you try so many things you get tired of notating what steps were taken. The developers of the application cannot even figure it out, and they even logged directly into one of our units to resolve this.

One difference is I have the Coral IE tab, where as the others have a more current version. Also thought maybe it was software our tech added [TeraCopy and Seconia PSI] since I removed them when I got my unit. I'm a brat, eh? But...mine works, and theirs do not, so...just have to figure out why. Any other thoughts/considerations would be greatly appreciated. Have a great night!
