Browsers remain in processes after closed (IE
Hi folks,

I'm having a problem with my browsers...both IE8 and Firefox 3.6.8

After I close either browsers, they remain open in the Task Manager Processes. The more times I open and close the browsers or tabs within the browsers, the more remain in Processes. I cannot manually kill them in Task Manager....they're always there. They end up eating all my cpu, and slowing down all programs and I end up needing to reboot my computer. (And by this point, I can no longer restart or turn off my computer, using the function in Windows. I have to shut off my laptop holding down the power button).

I am using on a Sony Vaio Laptop, Win XP Media Center Edition SP3.

Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.

Nobody has any experience with this problem? I'm still experiencing it. I've googled the issue, and have seen other people with the same problem, but have yet to find any solid solution for it.

Please click here to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

The Internet Explorer iexplore.exe process isn't showing in your running processes. Only Firefox is showing.

Because I just restarted my computer recently, because of the problem stated above. It begins to snowball in my processes every time I open and close the browser. Not right off the bat.

Please download and run the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware.

Run full scans and have them delete whatever they find. Then, please post back the reports they have generated, in your next reply.

Everytime you open a new tab in IE8, it's normal for a new iexplore.exe process to be generated in the Task Manager.

i know that....but when I close it, it stays in the processess, and does not close. Until I have like 10 iexplorer is the task manager, eating all my cpu. and I'm unable to use my computer, and have to reboot with the power button. Even the shutdown button in windows will not work, because my computer is busy with all the browsers, even though they are ALL closed.

This happens daily after a couple of hours of use.

Try booting into Safe Mode with Networking. Run IE8 and Firefox again.

Let me know if they behave the same way in that mode.
