Solved: Accessing Emails from Different Computers Within a Network
I have a small business.. 3 employees only.. some e-mails go to certain e-mail addresses and some go to others.. is there a software.. or a way to be able to check these e-mails from the same computer? for instance.. i have a fax to email service.. the confirmations go directly to an email address.. so if i was on one computer.. and another and another, is there a software/setup that i can see them from any computer?

Note: i am currently in the process of updating my server.. so with it will come new server OS

Why is this an issue? Why can't you simply define the accounts you want to access on any computer using the email client of your choice or access the accounts by web email?

Hey Terry, thanks for the reply.

Everything is being downloaded from the internet through Outlook through the POP account.. once the e-mail is downloaded it is on the individual computer that downloaded it

My current set up is the following: PC acting as a server with Windows XP professional as the OS.. the other "workstations" have some windows of Windows XP.. so right now as far as e-mails are concerned there is no centralized location for them..

Please keep in mind that our agency requires a low tech solution for the server.. but right now i am in the process of updating m my server PC because like i've mentoined before it is a regular PC acting as a server.. so it doesn't have redundant hard drives.. the ethernet card is slow.. and i'm scared to think what would happen of we are not able to operate within a few hours of going down..

I appreciate your reply.. i'm not a tech guy on the daily.. i'm just an insurance sales person/manager.. so.. your help is appreciated

Using Outlook with a POP account you want to set it to leave downloaded messages on the server. I like to set "delete from Server when I delete from the computer," but others use "delete from the server after n days." Either way you can still access the messages from other computers using Outlook, another email cilent or web mail until they are deleted from the server by your explicit action or by the aging factor.

Any time you have a choice it is much more convenient to use IMAP instead of POP, as all computers will, in effect, be synced.

hey Terry,

Got this scenario for you........................................... if i download the .MSG files onto the server.. and i switch the .MSG files so i will be able to access them.. will that work?

I have exchange.. but exchange seems to only work if you are actually hosting the e-mails.. and i am not doing that.. nor do i want to.. it is currently being hosted by Google

Switch? Do you mean share them or give them permissions so that they can be read and/or written from other machines? That would probably work.
