Firefox does not open at all.
Hi, I recently was prompted to do an update in firefox and after the installation screen (green bar) firefox did not start up.

When you click any firefox button (normal and safe mode) it does not start up, but I had the task manager processes screen open at the same time and when you click the button, the firefox.exe process appears for less than one second and then disappears again.

Does anybody know how I can get firefox to work again, but keep all of my bookmarks and other personalised features etc.?

Or even what files the personalised features are stored in so that I can reinstall the program completely.

Thanks

Don't do anything more complicated until you're rebooted the system--sometimes that's all it takes to "fix" issues like this.

All your "personalised features" are stored in your Firefox profile. The exact path to that depends on your operating system. That linked article give only Windows information.

OK; did that link give you all the info you needed for making sure you don't lose your Firefox profile? If you want more help/advice with that please tell us your operating system.

Hi, I read the article, backed up my profile and completely reinstalled firefox, but once I tried clicking the button again exactly the same thing happens.

In your Firefox profile look for a file named parent.lock. Delete it if you find it. It gets created when Firefox starts and is supposed to be deleted when Firefox exits.

Guess I'll have to turn you over to this Firefox diagnostic. I think the most promising parts are about creating a new profile (see the link just under "Profile issues"), the firewall stuff under "Other solutions" and the "Clean reinstall" section.
