Solved: Windows 8 messed up my Windows 7.... Ok so i'll start at the beginning. I wanted to try out the consumer preview for windows 8. Turns out after I made a new partition to install it on I accidentally installed it on the partition containing windows 7. All of my documents and everything were stored in the windows.old folder however. So I installed windows 7 on the partition that I originally wanted to install windows 8 on. My plan was to simply move all of the the windows.old stuff over. I realized that it was to big for the partition so I started deleting stuff I didn't need from the windows old folder. I shrunk the windows 8 parition after I had deleted some stuff and wnated to extend the windows 7 partition but was not able to. Apperntly windows doesn't let you exten partitions backwards... anyway. I decided to use a third party application to do this. I honestly cannot remember the name. After I had extended it I was told to restart. After the restart I got a message saying there was no operating system on my disk...So naturally I tried to fix it. I started the windows 7 installation cd and went to "repair my computer" It immidiatly found a problem and "fixed" it but after my restart I still did not have an operating system. So I attempted a reinstall of windows 7 on the windows 7 partition. It was almost done and then gave me an error message and shut down. After I started up again I was greeted with a familiar boot screen with windows 8 and windows 7 on it. I chose windows 7 and was told to repair my computer. I tried that again but the disk told me that it was not compatible with my version of windows! So I decided to try the windows 8 option in the boot menu instead. I got pretty much a metro style trouble shooting menu which I assume is the new "repair my computer menu" I tried to repair but nothing worked. What do I do! I don't mind getting rid of windows 8 but I need my windows.old data. Thanks for the help guys. |
