Thumbs down Solved: Is it me?
Now using my sons netbook to upload this post as tried 4 times on my laptop without success.My laptop is having issues viewing web pages/log in attempts failing/Hotmail stalling/uploading pics failing.Just redone a fresh install of windows because of this but still have the same problems.Dont know if its an internet connection problem as a new wireless card was installed some months ago or if it is a software issue.Happens with explorer/chrome/mozilla.Have included the following sys info and details below.regards frustrated .

moved to windows 7 forum as thats what you are reporting has having - wonder why you posted in vista forum

as you have done a complete re-install of windows - its unlikely to be a virus
but you have a lot of missing files

sorry bout the forum issue.Computer is a toshiba satellite L500D laptop.Told the comp shop to delete everything except certain folders and re install windows due to problems.Did say to me something about leaving partition for Toshiba and windows reason.

not sure they have done a very good job - and not sure why they have left the partition - unless they are refereing to a recovery partition on the toshiba - mmmmmmmm

I assume the certain folders had data you wanted to keep - correct - NOT programs , as they would need to be re-installed from the original installation files

why did it go back to the shop
did you pay the shop - if so you may want to make them do the job correctly
or
have you made a recovery set of CDs from the toshiba - this is usually asked for when you first install

how old is the laptop

can you copy all the data off onto an external harddrive and then re-install the windows system again

did the laptop come with windows 7 originally - whats on the CoA label on the bottom of the PC

data kept was personal files/folders,not programs.I seem to recall that not long after i bought the laptop that i think vista was released and seem sure i applied/received a free disk and installed it.Trying to find it.This could be the problem with missing files perhaps or have i got it arse about.lol
laptop is about 3-4 years old.No backup disks.eyesight is not what it used to be and sticker is worn on underside.can barely make out product key.I took it back as i was unhappy about the filures and slow if any connection on websites.My son used this computer as well as me but now he has his own so there was a build up of crap to be cleaned so time to get it done as well.

not sure why it now has windows 7 - 3-4 years old would be vista / or XP

can we see a screen shot of the disk manager and the system general tab

start>control panel > administrative tools > computer manager > disk manager
start>control panel > system


To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

sorry but cannot obtain screen shot.(thats a pain)computer says no.Anyhows will try to explain by visual experience.

start>control panel > administrative tools > computer manager > disk manager
result-
shows 3 volumes.first two unnamed but last is c .All simple basic and healthy except last is NTFS
1st is recovery partition.2nd is primary partition and last is c (system.boot.page file.active.crash dump.primary partition)
no fault tolerances and no overhead % .
disk 0 is basic and online with 3 volumes.
first two are 100% and last is 82% free.

start>control panel > system
result-( the important bits)
windows 7 home premium
service pack 1
64 bit op system
and windows is activated with product i.d

I think you should re-install windows and make sure you have a good installation

you may want to take the PC back to the shop and get then to do the job correctly

I'm just a little concerned about what software you have licensed -
Did the shop install windows 7 for you , and if so did they give you any DVDs and the license key ?

use this program http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ to find the windows key and make a note of it

you do have a recovery partition - so

1) you should make some recovery DVDs
2) you could recovery the system back to factory default again

for 1)
There should be a program on the PC -
have a read here - it explains how to create the recovery DVD

which should create windows 7 recovery CDs

for 2)
Make sure you have backed up all your data onto an external source - harddrive etc

Thanks for the advice etaf.
Am not game enough to do the re-install myself and dont have an external drive to save what i want to as it is a lot of music/pics and video.
Will take computer back to the shop tomorrow and have them look further into what we have discovered so far. When i get it back fixed i will try to explain on this post the problem/fix.

took it to them about a month ago and was charged $130 (i believe he used a program called spybot as he said the problem related to a virus).computer seemed to boot up quicker after that but still noticed when visiting sites that connection would seem to drop out or be slow.Put this down to maybe a problem again with my wireless card/chip as it was replaced a few months earlier.Noticeably a lot of pages with login protocols would not let me in as well as sending computer info to post on here earlier explaining my situation.Dismissed the wireless side of things by getting family to keep off internet so i can see any difference. Eg Xbox.ipad other laptops.Alas no difference!
took the computer back last friday and explained the situation to the guy saying fairly certain not connection problem and if he could re install windows to begin afresh thinking this would be the way to go.He seemed sympathetic and said he would do this and only charge $50.I asked if he needed any software that came with the computer(not that i had found them at that stage and still havent)and he said no.not needed.Got it back friday evening and its still not 100%.Did talk to him sat arvo and said i will bring it back tomorrow again.Is it best i tell him to reset to factory default or let him do whatever.

I would go back to factory reset
BUT you need to make sure you have all your data off

you said you had received a vista CD as an upgrade - which implies you had XP on the PC before - the CoA label will prove that

and now you have windows 7

so how has all that happened and you need to make sure you have a legal copy of windows 7 with the license - is that part of the work the shop carried out ?
