Help: laptop only works in safe mode, hangs up in normal mode
My laptop hangs up/ freeze in normal mode. Now I can only open it on safe mode. I was only copy pasting some files couple days ago when it happened. I have to hold the power button to turn it off. I already tried system restore and reformatted it twice. I'm using HP Pavilion dm4-1160us, windows 7 64-bit. HELP!!!

what error are you getting in normal mode? In safe mode, go to start > run > eventvwr.msc. That will open an explorer like window with applications, security, and system in the left pane. Click on system and see if there are any exclamation points near to when it last froze; if so, double click on the item in the right pane, click on the two pieces of paper to copy it to your clipboard, and then come back here and paste the results. Then do the same for the applications folder; look for any exclamation marks that are near in time to when your pc is freezing.

How about this one? on Administrative events - Critical - Kernell Power
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed or lost power unexpectedly.

There might be drivers or software creating conflicts with your operating system in Normal Mode.

Try a Clean Boot troubleshooting procedure. Run it for both Services and Startup items.
In a Clean Boot, only a minimal set of drivers and startup programs will load.

This sounds very similar to my gf laptop. It kept crashing while boot up and the only way to turn off, is to hold the button down.

You say that the laptop get hot? How hot?. When was the last time this laptop had the fan and heat sinks dusted out?

I would say that it keeps crashing from over heating, therefore get someone or yourself to take the computer apart to give it a clean, I did this to my gf's and it hasn't crashed since.
