My laptop (Hp Pavilion dvx4 1 1/2 years old) suddenly won't load Windows 7. It turns on, fan and DVD drive run but the mute and Internet icons on the keyboard remain red and there are two flashing lights on the keyboard ( one beside the caps lock key and the other is above the scroll key). That's all it does. No beeps, sounds or cursor. I had noticed a problem with my sound on a couple web sites prior to this but no error messages ever displayed indicating any problems. I bought this laptop at Best Buys and they installed a recovery disc but other then that I don't have the original Windows 7 disc in order to try to boot from CD-rom.

Can someone please provide me with some suggestions.......?

How to Access Safe Mode

While the computer is turning on, tap F8 repeatedly until a black screen with white text appears. Using your arrow keys highlight the option Safe Mode and hit Enter.

Recovery disks aren't installed, so I'm not sure what you mean.

Do you have a Recovery Disk that you could run?

Or do you have a Recovery Partition on your harddrive?

I don't have a recovery disc. I was suppose to receive one but apparently I did not. I cannot get into safe mode,doesn't sound like the processor even attempts to load windows In order to shut it down I need to press and hold down the power button for several seconds before it turns off which is normal from my past experience ?

Here are recovery instructions for HP/Compaq laptops.

If you have a Recovery Partition, this will access it.

1. Reboot, and repeatedly press F10 at the HP logo until the recovery screen appears.
2. When the recovery screen appears, press "Next" and then "Yes" to perform a non-destructive recovery.
3. To perform a destructive recovery, click "Advanced" and then "Yes".
4. After the recovery is finished, the laptop will reboot.

It does not start up with the Hp logo. Nothing comes onto the screen when it's turned on. No flash, flicker, logo... nothing at all.

Have you tried formatting your Windows OS? If it won't boot to HP, or you don't see anything in the screen, then you have a video problem, which means that your HP is set or is reading a different video for it's output or worst, you have to reflow your HP (Which is by the way, the infamous faulty on the later Pavillion model on HP). Can you explain a little bit clearer on your HP problem?

Are you able to get into BIOS?

As it's booting tap F12.

If you can't get into BIOS, then it's a hardware problem and you need to ship it to your manufacturer for a repair.
