I have a Gateway NV53 laptop running Windows 7. Tonight, all of a sudden, when attempting to run a System Restore I got this error message: System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the application event log for more information. (0x80042302)"
I have no idea what this means or how to fix it, any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue.


Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

All looks well with the log have you tried in safemode and what is the reason that you want to do a system restore?
