Windows Update problem
When I open " Windows Update " page there's a big Red X. Then when I click " Check for updates " it states " Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I have restarted my computer but come up with the same results.

This is just one of many problems I am having with my Windows 7 computer at this time. I figure it's a good place to start.

Make sure the service is Started and set to Automatic.

Press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

Type services.msc

Press Enter.

Scroll down to the Windows Update service and double-click it.

The above procedure is for Windows XP. Did you try Resetting Windows Update Components?

Press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

Type the following command and press Enter:

Code:

regedit /e C:\look.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv"
You won't see anything happen and it will only take a second. You will find the report it creates in C:\look.txt. Please open it in Notepad and then copy and paste the report into your next post.
