Bsod
I don't really know how to use forums, etc. I googled BSOD problems and found this organization and a man named TheShooter93 asked someone else with a similiar problem to turn off the auto restart and then to write down what the Blue Screen says. I did that and when i went back to that conversation it is closed and I can't reply.

I have had the computer into the shop 3 or 4 times. it has a new hard drive. DELL Inspiron 1720 about 5 years old. thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

here is info I copied down for July 9 and today, July 17
July 9, 2012

Then I restarted and it ran CHKDSK

As much as I could write down:
Stage 1 186112 file records processed
No bad files

Stage 2 2252276 index entries processed
3 unindexed files scanned
3 unindexed files recovered

Stage 3

**************************** here is months of history.
i don't have a job, am on disability. i have spent hundreds of dollars at a computer repair place. I am home bound and my computer is pretty much only access to outside world....
any and all assistance would be very appreciated; thank you!. I have been trying to work on this for so long, and still it happens......I think BSOD is really a sign of pending death of my computer.

Nothing to copy
A few weks ago I got new power supply, new mouse, and removed dead battery, nw power strip. This happened in bedroom with old, fancy power strip. Thought it was fixed. Nope.

6/25/2012
Had computer turned off. Turned on and wasn’t watching it. Glanced up to BSOD and then it went to that B&W screen where it said something and gone wrong Yadda Yadda. I started it normally

7/2/2012
I was in the middle of working on an excel spread sheet and BSOD happened. Was aboel to read a little bit” verify you have enough disc space, I do, and then check with manufacturer for new Bios updates.

Hi and welcome.
Either post the Minidump files.
Look in c:\windows\minidump
ZIP them and attach them to your next post.

Right-click the minidump file, select Send To.
Then select Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Windows will compress the file and then save the new zipped file in the same location.

Or download BlueScreenView
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
Download link at the bottom of the page.

Download > install.
Once it has scanned > Click on Edit > Select All > File > Save Selected Item
It will open in Notepad - or save to Notepad > Copy > Paste and Post the last 5 minidump files from the scan.

to Blues_harp28 re BSOD
thank you for helping me so much so far! i knew I had WinZip and just finally found registration information to get it going again. (i didn't know you sent me the 2nd email re: that other way to zip things)
I am administrator on my computer. I am only person who uses this computer. permissions appears to say I have access to minidump folder. it won't give me access. I don't know what to do about that.

I did download the other program you suggested. BlueScreenView and am attaching that file, I hope it contains as much information as the minidump ones that I can't seem to get to.

well, I am pasting the files here, since I am unable to attach a file to this message. really, I am not usually this incompetent.

Some reasons for Blue Screens
New hardware - Software installed.
Device driver - Video driver - corrupted - faulty.
Faulty Ram - Overheating - Dying hard drive etc.

But where the blue screen error is reported, is not necessarily where it first started and may not be the cause.

Check Device manager - a driver may need updating.
Click the + sign against all entries to expand what is listed.
Look for exclamtion marks.

Run SFC /SCANNOW

Run a Mem Test.

Download the ISO file from one of the links above to your desktop.
Then burn the ISO to a Cd.
Start the Pc using the Cd and run the memory test overnight or for at least 8 passes.

It is best to run a full scan on individual Ram sticks if you can.
Or run the test but if any errors are shown - then remove all sticks of Ram and test each Ram stick one at a time.
