I know this has been asked here and elsewhere before, and I apologize, but I am very confused, as the answers I see are either extremely technical or not applicable to my situation.

After I set my desktop icons in the order I wish them on my desktop, the revert back to a preset order either the next time I turn on my computer or if I hit "refresh" and right clicking on the desktop. "Auto arrange" is unchecked so that is not the problem.

Can anyone provide a solution for dummies?
