Improper shutdowns, kdcom.dll
So this problem's been going on for a while now, maybe about 3 weeks - long enough that I no longer have a system restore point before it started occurring (and system restore didn't seem to help much back then either, the problem just started again after a few days).

Basically, when I close my laptop and leave it overnight, in the morning I always wake up to a message saying my computer shutdown improperly, and Windows could not be started. Startup repair begins, and finishes, claiming it fixed the problem (the log always says the cause is a corrupt kdcom.dll). But the same thing just happens again the next morning/night.

Along with this, I notice a bit of data loss - programs I installed are sometimes no longer installed the next morning, and options aren't saved in a few of my games.

I've done a bit of googling on kdcom.dll and tried running sfc /scannow when I start up, but it always just says something along the lines of a Windows update pending and being unable to do it now. I've tried most of the solutions I've found and none worked, pretty much the only thing I've got left to try is sfc /scannow from a Windows recovery disc (which I don't have at the moment). Anybody know what could be causing this problem?

Pc Cleaner Pro.
Do Not download and install.
Registry Cleaners can and often do, cause more problems than they solve.

There have been many posts on this forum, where the poster wished that they had never used a registry cleaner.
Most are a One Click fixes all program and claim to fix so called registry errors.
Yes, they all promise a backup of what they delete but what if a Windows file has been removed and you can no longer boot to the desktop?
One reason why we no longer recommend them here.

Are you able to install Windows Updates without a problem?
Does the error occur if you shutdown your Pc completely at night?

Is it possible to borrow an install DVD from family or a friend?

Haven't noticed any problems with updates, no.
I've been meaning to try shutting it down normally but keep forgetting, just made a note to myself to do it tonight for sure.

I'll be borrowing a recovery disc from a friend next time I see him, but that won't be for about a week, in the meantime i'll check whether he's got an install disc.

Ran a disk check, didn't seem to find anything wrong.

Still getting a message about windows updates when I try to run sfc /scannow from boot, but was able to do it as administrator in Windows. Ran both it and sfc /verifyonly a few times and still didn't seem to find anything, although I'll try a few more times just to be positive.

Just checked, it no longer says anything about a Windows update, it now says "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Please restart your computer and run sfc again." I've restarted a few times and keep getting it.

I did shut down my laptop totally last night, and it started up with no problem, so it seems to just be shutting down by itself with some problems when inactive.

Let us know when you have the install DVD - a startup repair may or not me helpful.
