Solved: Need some help on swapping out hard drive on HP desktop I am wanting to replace the exsisting hard drive with a new one. I have a 2tb external hard drive that has the back up software on it. I want to back up the hard drive in the pc to the external hdd. And then take out the old hdd and install and format the new one and restore the OS and programs on the new one. Without loosing the recovery partition and the software that came on the PC out of the box.
Or could I use the HP recovery disks to install the original factory software and OS on the new hdd? I do not think recovery disks will work this way.
The new hdd is a WD Caviar Black 1 TB.
