Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter
Hello
I just installed Windows 7 Ent. (64) and can not connect to the internet due to the fact te system can not find a driver for my network adapter
I ran the DEVMGMT and it shows no network adapters BUt it shows two yellow !
1) Ethernet Controller
2) MultimediaAudio Controller
The system was working fine before with Windows XP
Any idea how I can solve this issue to enable me to connect online again?
When I click on the Ethernet Controller I get the following:
Device Type : Other Devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: PCI bus 0, device 4, function 0
Device Status
The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)
When I click on the Multimedia Audio Controller here are the properties
Device Type: Other Devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location : PCI bus 0,device2,function7
Device Status
The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)
Thanks for your help

there may not be windows 7 drivers available for those devices

where did you get the windows 7 software from

------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to identify hardware in Device Manager

right click on the devices with a yellow!/?

from the menu choose
properties
Click on the Details Tab
Under the Property - drop down
Select hardware ids
Right click and select all
Then right click again and select copy
Copy and paste that information here

You should see a code similar to this

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_008A&SUBSYS_53058086&REV_34

please reply with the full code for your device(s)

The portion of the code highlighted in RED is the Vendor ID and the portion highlighted in GREEN is the Device ID. In this example:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_008A&SUBSYS_53058086&REV_34

Vendor ID = 8086
Device ID = 008A

Post back those two numbers make sure we know which is vendor ID and which is device ID

These codes can be looked up at this site http://www.pcidatabase.com/

As an example the link for that database tells us that;
Vendor ID code 8086 is for this vendor - Intel Corporation
Device ID code 008A is for this device - Intel Centrino Wireless-N1030

Thanks for your quick response
It seems my Ethernet Adapter is SIS900 and indeed there is no special driver for windows 7.
Codes are Ven 1039 Dev 0900

MyMultimedia Audio controller codes are
Ven 1039 Dev 7012

A search in PCIDATA.COM showed this is SIS as well.

I looked up online and found the SIS driver and downloaded it to my laptop hoping to transfer it by an external hard drive to my desktop but for some reason it refuses to be copied into the external hard drive.
It seems that downloading this driver might solve the problem.
Am I doing something wrong here?

Update
I managed to get the SIS900 driver and tried to install it using the "Update Driver" feature but it wouldnt work
I might be doing it work...
Read about this issue on a few forums and it seems that re-installing this driver should enable windows 7 to operate with the ethernet adapter
thx again for your patience and help

This is a compaq presario..not sure which is the exact model..looked around but couldn't find it (maybe not looking at the right place)
As for the motherboard, I know it is AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+ 2.21 Ghz..went to belarc.com with my laptop but not sure where to look there for the ID (the desktop can not go online so not sure how belarc can find all my keys)

how much memory do you have on the PC - 1GB , not really enough for windows 7

also work should not be providing windows 7 for home personal PCs

2gb memory
It doesn't seem to be a memory issue but a driver issue.
I was assured by work that their license terms definitely cover the use (for work purposes)

OK

can you post the link to the driver - and is it windows 7
have you installed windows 7 32 or 64 bit

have a read here on how to install the extracted inf file for xp

------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to install the driver from Device Manager if the download is a INF file

If the download is a Zip or RAR type of file
First extract the files from the zip/rar file onto your PC into a folder of their own

then the steps are

>Start Globe
>Devices and Printers
>File > select - Device Manager

Goto the Device you need to update
Note: Use the [+] icon to open up the hardware categories which contain the actual devices.

right-click on the adapter
Then click on Update Driver

Select on "seach driver on computer"
Then insert the path of your INF file (the folder you extracted the zip/rar file into)
Click OK and Windows will install the driver for you.

i thought you found a windows 7 driver from post #5
thats what is needed if non available you will need to find a USB LAN adapter or if theres a slot available a PCI or whatever slot is in the machine , that will work on windows 7
