Question svchost.exe *32
My computer has become very slow to respond to many commands. When I look at the router, I have noticed what looks like a lot of internet traffic with no programs running on the computer. Using windows 7, current updates. Intel core i5 at 2.3ghz. I see svchost.exe *32 displayed in task manager using over 1 gig of memory. processor time is 30 to 50 percent. When I right click and choose open file location I get SysWOW64. Does the svchost.exe *32 need to be removed? If I choose to end process tree, svchost will usually start back on its own and slow he computer down again. WTH ... just confused !

Hi, let us have some Pc specifications.
Check and post
TSG System Information Utility - found here.
http://static.techguy.org/download/SysInfo.exe
=====
Download Security Check by screen317 from.
http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/
Or
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/securitycheck/

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click the install icon.
If using Vista - Win 7 - right click the install icon and select "Run as Administrator"
A command Prompt window will open.
Let it scan the Pc - press any key when asked.
It should now open in Notepad.
Copy and Paste the result of the scan in the reply box below.

The saved log will be called checkup.txt.

Hi Pickj, Malwarebytes has detected a Zero Access Rootkit infection, it is unlikely to successfully remove the entire infection so we need to run some other tools.

Please complete the scan with ADWCleaner and post that log for review.

SCAN 1
Download RogueKiller (by tigzy) and save direct to your Desktop.
On the web page select the 32bit or 64bit button to match the bit rate of your version of Windows.
  • Quit all running programs.
  • Start RogueKiller.exe by double clicking on the icon.
  • Wait until Prescan has finished.
  • Ensure all boxes are ticked under "Report" tab.
  • Click on Scan.
  • Click on Report when complete. Copy/paste the contents of the report and paste into your next reply.
  • NOTE: DO NOT attempt to remove anything that the scan detects.

SCAN 2
Please download RKill
There are three buttons to choose from with different names on, select the first one and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • If using Vista or Windows 7, right-click on it and select Run As Administrator.
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • A log pops up at the end of the run. This log file is located at C:\rkill.log. Please post this in your next reply.
  • If you do not see the black box flash on the screen delete the icon from the desktop and go back to the link for the download, select the next button and try to run the tool again, continue to repeat this process using the remaining buttons until the tool runs. You will find further links if you scroll down the page with other names, try them one at a time.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

I was able to load and run rkill however, I was not able to run as administrator. The choice wasn't there. I ran the program and the command box did appear but the file \rkill.log did not appear on c: drive. I did copy the contents of the verbage in the command box. I don't think this is what you are wanting..........

That is the correct result from Rkill, but the RogueKiller log is more important as the tool will also be used to remove the infection after I have seen the log. Please run RogueKiller and post the log.

Rkill found the ZA infection and also identified several items of Adware which we will remove with another tool once we have dealt with the ZA infection.

I cannot find the rougekiller log. I click onto the rkill icon on the desktop, the one that looks like a sheet of notepad paper, and the contents is the same as I posted on my previous reply. The second rkill icon looks like an open folder and when I click onto that one, windows explorer shows that as a "registration entries" folder. If I try to open that folder, I am asked if I will allow it to write to registry. So far I have denied that option. I cannot find the rkill log. I am not able to run rkill as an administrator. I do not have that option. Any suggestions?

I'm not too sure where you are at. RogueKiller and Rkill are two different programs. Instructions were given in post 10 to run both of them SCAN 1 & SCAN 2.

You say you cannot find the Rkill log, but you have already posted it in post 11 .

If you have followed the instructions correctly both the Rkill and RogueKiller icons should be on your desktop and when you run the programs the logs will get saved in the same place, logs always appear as a white notepad.

I have included an attachment showing what the program icons look like. The second attachment shows the Rkill log, the RogueKiller Quarantine (RK_Quarantine) and the RogueKiller log (RKreport[0]). All those icons should be visible on your desktop.
