cant uncheck read-only check on properties of a folder
i just got a new laptop with windows 7 on it. i wanted to copy a folder of files for one of my games that i played on my windows xp computer to my new windows 7 laptop. i needed to uncheck the read-only in the properties so it could work on my game. i uncheck it, hit apply, hit apply again, then ok. it closes. i open the properties again and the read-only appears to still be unchecked. can you please help me,

thank you.

Hello Try going into safe mode and try what you did. Restart computer hit F8 , and then hit enter to safe mode.

Welcome to TSG!

That is by design. Most programs don't have a problem with it, but this shows how to change it if needed:You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Where is the Folder located and what is it's name?

Example:
If the folder is in your Documents folder and is named Game Files, you would do this:
Click Start, type cmd, press Enter
Type the following lines, press enter after each one, be sure there is a space between each different colored section:
CD /D "%Userprofile%\Documents"
attrib -H "Game Files"

%Userprofile% is a shortcut for the current user's profile, usually "C:\Users\Username"

Basically you switch to the folder using CD /D followed by the full path to the folder that contains the folder you want to change in quotes
Then remove the hidden attribute using ATTRIB -H and the Folder name in quotes
