printer incompatibility
I have a new computer with windows 7 home premium, 64 bit. I have an existing HP Officejet 6210. It's supposed to be plug and play, but the operating system is recognizing the printer as an unidentified device, hence I'm unable to print. I've tried installing the drivers for Vista 64 but I can't get the installation to work. A big X comes up when trying to connect with the printer.

Could the two just be incompatible? (HP and Microsoft says they're compatible but nothing HP is suggesting I do is working)

Have you tried using Vista compatibility mode?

I had a similar issue this morning and during the course of my research I saw the above as a remedy in several places.

Best of luck!

With the printer connected and powered up, go to Control Panel (view by icons) >Devices and printers>add a printer

add local printer>Use existing port>select USB0001 from the drop down>Next>Select HP from manufacturer list, then on the right scroll down to HP officejet 6200 series>next

see if it will install now.

printer incompatibility
I've done all as you've suggested, but it is still not working. I was able to get a much older crappy printer to work, so I'm not sure what's going on.

It tells me that the 7 drivers are not installed for my printer. and that what I need is already there. Which it's not.

If all above fails try it this way
Unhook the printer from the pc
Install the software..either by disk or a download
Us compatibility mode on the set up file.
If the file is a zip file after you unpack it..look for other installers there can be 2 or 3 located in various folders.
You can also browse the disk and do the same.

Run it......then plug in the printer...the drivers will now be on your machine and windows should pick them up

If you are installing a printer and your printer is not shown in the Add Printer wizard, then use the Windows Update button to download more drivers from the Microsoft server and you should have a bigger selection of drivers to choose from.

Also, when installing an HP printer, don't fall prey to the same problem I had list night. "Printer isn't listed!" But it was-HP is listed twice in Manufacturer's. Once as HP and again as Hewlett-Packard. Somehow I'd forgotten that. Searched the printers list at least 3 times under HP before remembering. Found the printer I was looking for first thing when I looked under the Hewlett-Packard list.
