USB to Serial drivers needed
Hi,
I have been trying to find a suitable driver to enable my generic usb to serial cable to work with Windows 7, 64 bit. No luck so far. I have tried several but none work. Unfortunately there is no name on the cable and so far the supplier has not responded to my emails. Hope someone can provide me with a link to a suitable driver.

USBDeview: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html will list the USB devices that are (or have been) connected to your system. When you double click a device it will show a description for it, and will show a VendorID and Product ID.

They usually are enough to identify a driver for it. USB controllers are commonly made by Cypress, FTDI or Prolific Technology.

If you need help, try to find the USB vendor ID, something like: usb\vid_067b&pid_2303\5&285de58c&0&2

Many thanks. That is a very useful bit of software. My cable is made by Prolific so I installed the driver for 067b/ prod 2303, from their website. Unfortunately it still does not work. USBDeview tells me it is not connected. I have tried a different serial connector. Windows Device Manager says "This device cannot start (code 10).
I have just gone back on to the Amazon page and noticed that the cable is not compatible with Vista (so presumably no use with Win7 either). I had failed to notice this before ordering. Ah well, it was only £2.60!
Thanks again for the help.
