problem installing windows 7 URGENT
Hello, i am having a problem installing windows 7 on my windows vista home edition. So the installation went well and smoothly until the conclusion, where i always get this error message: "The computer was rebooted in an unexpected way or it found an unexpected error. The windows installation cannot continue. In order to install windows, click "OK" to reboot your computer and reboot the installation". Then i click OK and it reboots my computer, but when i get into the part that says: "the installation is starting the services" i get that error message again and again.
I would be very glad if anyone could help me fixing this problem

My computer is:
HP
2 GB RAM
ATI RADEON X1650
Intel 1.8 Dual core
250 Gb HDD

I suggest you do a clean installation of Windows 7, I hope you backed up your data in Vista before attempting the upgrade, I doubt you can recover from this error.

Try going into the BIOS and disabling the L2 cache

after you exit, run setup again and if it completes then you have a bad motherboard.

Also one other thing to try...

Go to Gateway computer website and search for a program called GWSCAN. it's a Non-branded version of Western Digital's "Data Lifeguard" program.
Download and make a floppy or CD to boot and test your system with. Run the extensive test and see what the results are.

that post smacks of childish impatience. is it just me?

also, it may be an RAM error that may have caused a blue screen of death (BSOD) or another hardware defect. this happened to me a couple of times until i found the RAM responsible :P

Mumbodog's advice is best at this point; try a clean install after format and then if you still have problems it will need to be taken further. No mention of the Vista install being problematic (besides the normal PITA that Vista is) prior to upgrade points to an upgrade that did not go well.

It's possible the OP has a legitimate reason for the impatience-but since he didn't explain why it's so urgent I would also ascribe it to childishness.

Worst case of RAM error I encountered was when I was called in after a 'professional' PC tech had 1) thrown out the XP Reinstall CD as bad, 2) replaced the hard drive as bad, and 3) recommended replacing the CD drive as bad. At that point the owner decided to get a second opinion. (Fortunately he had two identical PC's so he had a 2nd Reinstall CD.) Took me about 30 seconds to diagnose bad RAM, and about $75 to prove it (by replacing the RAM). He happily paid me my fee and, the last I heard, had agree to pay the professional tech for the cost of the hard drive (since we couldn't prove that the original drive was bad) but refused to pay his labor fees. Personally, I thought he should have traded the cost of the drive against the cost of replacing the CD, but he opted not to actually replace it. (Installing from the 2nd copy, with the product key from the problem PC, worked fine, of course.)

So I'd agree-in case of 'inexplicable' errors, always suspect bad RAM. It's fairly cheap & easy to check, too.
