Hello Folks. Can anyone tell me how to back up my system. I have tried several times without success. I have used a dl disk plus a 4.7gb dvd-r as instructed by the computer but on restart it tells me to back up the system???.

Hello Folks. Additional info the 4.7gb disk only ran to 26% has the back succeeded??. It then stopped in it's tracks. 1 last question what would be the total amount of disk space would be needed to save the whole system.

First of all, you do not post what app you are using for backup ie acronis true image, ghost, whatever.

Next I would NOT be backing up to dvd since it will take multiple dvds. Do your backup image to another hd, external drive, NAS, network share, etc.

Your profile say you're running XP .. But you're in the Windows 7 forum

There are two methods of Backing up in Windows 7.

You can Backup User and System Files .. Here's a Tutorial

Or you can make a backup of the entire system ... this is called Imaging ..
Here's how to make a backup Image ... And Here's how to do an Image recovery.

Ghost and Acronis are other software programs that can do "Imaging"
Maybe This will help explain Imaging to backup your System.

Maybe this'll help us get started

Apologies not needed ...
If you were not in W7 ... You wouldn't have been asking the question

Backups are best are best performed by saving the Data to an External HD.
But for a new system with not much in it ... A DVD should be OK.

I hope my links will help you get started ... then you can ask questions.

Hello Noyb. I have been to my account and tried to amend the xp to win7 but only being a web searcher I cannot seem to find how to amend my profile. This may sound a bit silly to those in the know. I have tried to get an external drive from pcworld.co.uk but was only sent round and round in circles. I will give them a call in the morning.
Thank You for the advice. bob

It's not a Crisis .... But ...

In "My Account" >> choose "Edit your Details" >> and Edit where it says ..
Computer Specs ..

You might want to simplify yours while you're there.
