Solved: W7 Systems Repair Disc
I just found this sytems repair disc procedure so I am wondering if this is a necessary item or just nice to have. If it is advisable, how many disc's does it generate.

Thanks

Where did you see this? In backup and restore?, if so,

If you have your Windows 7 install disc, it will do the same thing, if not I suggest you make one. Booting from your W7 DVD or the disc you make will allow you to enter the Recovery Environment to make repairs if needed. Some PC's have this RE on the hard disk and can be accessed by certain keystrokes at the very start of the boot process, see your PC documentation.

It only makes one disc, CD or DVD, your choice.

Some PC maunfacturers have a different kind of software to create a set of factory restore DVDs, this is completely different than the built in system repair disc creation in W7.

A bit more info about *what* procedure you found would help, but the one on my new HP desktop (listed under Maintenance in the menu) created 1 CD. It's purpose, as I understand it, is to replace the Windows 7 CD you would normally boot from to access the Repair console. In one sense, that's necessary since HP no longer seems to include the Windows CD's. In another sense, few people (other than techs) seem to use the Repair console. So it's your choice, but IMO spending 1 CD is 'minor'.

This might be confused with the System Recovery disks, which are created under Recovery Manager. That required 3 DVD's and wouldn't work with R/W's. Again, I regard that as too inexpensive to worry about whether or not I need them.

A good backup system should virtually remove the need for either.
