Unhappy Windows 7 WiFi sharing problem.(USB router)
Ok, so i have my WiFi max, which is a usb dongle netowork device thing. Back in XP, i used it as a "router" or "access point" for my PS3's wifi internet. In windows 7, i have installed the driver for this dongle, installed the software, but when i connect my ps3 to it, it says "The ip address cannot be found". My computer is connecto to the internet, and i want to share that inernet with the one that the dongle sends out. This worked in XP, i just pressed on the connection my computer was connected to and enabled internet connection sharing. I do the same thing in Windows 7, but it wont work...Any suggestions? Can it be a firewall thing? I have windows firewall turned off, but i guess it still might be blocking it....

Let's see ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

That's almost readable. Where'd all the CR/NLs go?

Set the wireless connection to dynamic:

To configure a dynamic IP address on your Windows Vista or 7 computer:

1. Click Start.
2. Select Network, then Network and Sharing Center, and click Manage network connections from the list of tasks.
3. Right click the connection of interest and click Properties.
4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the list and click the Properties button.
5. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
6. Select Obtain DNS Server address automatically.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Close.

(That's actually Vista; I just assumed it's the same in 7. Please tell me if that's true.)

Then, since you are connected to a router you should be able to create a network bridge with the ethernet and wireless connections. Else enable ICS on the ethernet (it is not currently enabled according to the ipconfig /all).

C:\Users\Deus>I have sharing enabled, it says "Shared" on the network im currently connected to. I might add this too, i installed windows XP virtual mode, installed the adapter and the zydas utility, and the connection works when im running it in XP. The settings for the adapter in XP though are under the TCIP 4 thing Address "192.168.1.1" and the other one "255.255.255.0" and it works in virtual XP mode.

Earlier I said "ethernet" when I should have said "Wireless-G PCI Adapter with SRX," but you realized my mistake and compensated.

The "IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No" line near the top of the ipconfig /all means that ICS is not enabled. Please go to the connection, disable ICS, and then enable it again.

Note that when the "other" network is wireless Vista will turn off ICS every boot. XP does not turn it off. I don't know what Windows 7 does, but I suspect it's like Vista.

Well, i disabled it, then enabled it again, i chose the "Wireless Connection 4" under select a home network, and is till get ip address timed out error on my ps3. There is an "x" on top of the connection that is associated with the wifimax under my network settings if that helps at all...

Maybe it's some Windows 7 specific problem, which I have not yet encountered.
