There are always min requirements for any os. Here are the requirements for win 7
http://windows.microsoft.com/systemrequirements

In short no you cannot install with 512 of ram. Min is 1gig.

I tried installing Win 7 Ultimate in a Virtual PC (VPC 2007) with 384 MiB of RAM, and it said it needed 512 MiB minimum. Set it to 512, and it will install.

Runs poorly in VPC 2007, even with 1 GB of RAM assigned, and I can't tell a difference with 512, but I suspect it would not run that well on real hardware with only 512 MiB of RAM, especially if the system has On-board Video that is using shared RAM, and/or an older system with a slower processor.
