Question Solved: windows 7 help
i just bought a copy of windows 7 and installed it on my old hardrive i used to use on this computer. i want to install it on this computers new hardrive this one i am using now. i don't want to lose all my files with a complete reinstall and want to use the upgrade choice not full when insatlling. will i run into problems when registering windows 7 as i registered and got some updates on the other hardrive. windos 7 doesn't ask for the product key untill the installation is almost completed. i don't want to run into problems at that stage. does anyone know if i can do this without first doing something else first? thanks

If you're saying that you are reinstalling Windows 7 on the same computer with the only change being the hard drive then I think that you should be OK.

If you are doing an upgrade from Vista and the installation fails I think that it reverts to the Vista you started with. Nonetheless, upgrade installations can go haywire, so I like to have at least two backup copies of my data before starting one. That way I still have two copies even if something happens to the files on the hard drive.

thanks for the help. i ended up installing from scratch because the upgrade wouldnt work properly. it took all day but it's done now thanks for the help. by the way when u install from scratch it saves your old windows files under wiindows old. so u dont technnically have to back them up. i did anyway onto a clickfree then just deleted the windows old as most of it was crap from bitcomet which im sure was putting torrents onto my system without my knowledge as my hard drives free sapce shrunk unrelative to my downloads and didnt expand when deleting old movies etc.. very dodgy stuff bitcomet. i didnt reinstall them anywho thanks again for your time

You're welcome. Glad you're all installed, and certainly agree with the wisdom of staying away from torrents.
