Solved: Strange windows7 desktop glitch
OK guys, I got a weird glitch here.

I have a new laptop running win7 home premium-64. As I was installing all of my programs I created a couple shortcuts for two of them on my desktop. I then had the shortcuts pinned to the quicklaunch toolbar, and I deleted the original shortcuts from my desktop...dragged them to the recycle bin.

Now, whenever I restart or log off/on these two shortcuts reappear on the desktop, and they rearrange all of my other desktop icons when it happens. I have removed them several times but they always reappear no matter how I delete them...very irritating

I've already checked my startup folder and they are not there.

I checked in the msconfig startup list and they are not in there either.

So, what do I have to do to get rid of these pesky, stubborn shortcuts?

Thanks...Randy

That's indeed strange. My only suggestion is to empty the recycle bin (or at least do a final delete of those two icons) after dragging them there.

By the way, please bring your signature into compliance--3 lines max. You may want to put the first part of it into Computer Specs.

Didn't work. I deleted them and then emptied the recycle bin and then logged off/on and they came back.

Sorry about the sig...didn't know about the restriction.

Thanks...Randy

Problem solved. I finally figured out that it was one of my programs that I had just installed that was creating the icons.

I use Virtual CD, as I have several different CD's and DVD's that I need for my job, and I don't like switching discs all the time when I need a different one than is in the drive. Virtual CD works very well for me and I have been using it for years. But, since I just got a new computer with windows 7 on it I had to upgrade the program to the latest version, and the new version automatically creates icons for the drives on the desktop whenever a disc is inserted. I didn't know that it would do that, as the old version I was using never did.

Once I realized what was happening I went into the options and turned off that feature and now I have my desktop the way I want it.

Thanks for the help...Randy

Thanks for the update. Guess it would have taken somebody with experience with that program to figure that out!
