I think HP has always had a qualitative difference in hardware for their consumer vs business systems. Recently, HP has narrowed the gap, but they still sell some consumer level hardware that's pretty junky.

i just bought an e9240f back on the 3rd, it started messing up the day after i got it, the 7th! after 4 days with HP tech support, i deduced that the recovery partition was corrupt cuz i couldn't do a system recovery to factory shipped. i see on HP site, ur pc came with Norton preinstalled. did u unistall it or turn it off when using other antivirus programs? have u insisted with HP that ur pc is junk & that you'd like a replacement?? i finally got my exchange 4 days ago & it's been a dream since. everything that was wrong with the 1st pc hasn't happened with this 1. was just a lemon is all. u should really consider telling HP you want an Exchange!! just mho

When I posted a couple days ago I had missed your statement of Norton being on the machine. Use Symantec's Norton Removal Tool.

So you did a clean install of Windows 7 after you bought the computer? A clean install is always better than an upgrade. Download the Windows 7 compatibility test from Microsoft's website and see if your computer can run Windows 7. Another possibility could be a registry problem. Try booting into safe mode (F8 at startup) and see if Windows 7 runs normally.

Some other thoughts on the Win 7 problems.

Most motherboards have had bios updates posted since win 7 release to fix bugs.

Most video boards (chip sets) and network cards (and chipsets) have had new drivers posted to fix bugs.

Win 7 is very fussy, because it has tightened up security drastically, and even slight errors in a critcal driver will lead to trouble.

I am running a win 7-64 with windows virtual PC and virtual xp without any significant trouble, but every driver and bios is less than 14 days old.

Windows 7 has its disadvantages but it is worth it. Just give it more time and will see.
