Slow folder browsing all of a sudden...
Hi all,

Hope somebody can help me. For some reason there is now a delay of about 1 second every time I click on a folder whilst browsing my computer. Doesn't matter what folders I look at I click on it, the hourglass (or circle thingy) comes up for a second and then the folder or file opens.

Really odd, Win7 has up to now been really quick and snappy. Only thing I have installed recently (about 2 weeks before the problem started so I suspect this is not related) was the driver software for a new wi-fi canon printer.

Does anybody have any ideas what might be causing this slow down? Really appreciate any help - I have included the HijackThis log in case it helps.

Many many thanks
Steve

Hi. I have the EXACT same problem. It only started about two weeks ago, the same time i installed Roxio's Media Creator 2009. Since uninstalling it there hasn't been any changes.... browsing from folder to folder takes between 1 and 2 seconds wheras earlier this month the PC was superfast. MS Silverlight also installed during an automatic update but that too doesn't seem to make much difference.

Also, possibly on a related note, when trying to play an audio file through Winamp every second or third attempt results in a error indicating the RPC server is unavailable. Not sure how this has come about but I have been over 2 hours trying to rectify the problem. Does anyone out there have any thoughts on the issue(s)?

TIA

Hi there,

I think my culprit was Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. I have removed this and have found my folders are back to normal - whole interface is a bit more snappy. I have gone back to Bitdefender now for my protection and I have no issues.

Are you running Kaspersky?

Regards

Actually Steve I AM running Kasperky Internet Security 2010. I turned it off and there seemed to be no changes. I'll try uninstalling it to see if that does the trick. Nonetheless after paying $40 I'll be somewhat ticked if Kaspersky is the cause.

It is possible that Kaspersky will fix it over the next few weeks - so if you have found removing Kaspersky has done the trick then maybe try something else for a month (free version or a trial version) and the put Kaspersky back on.

Also possible re-install of Kaspersky might do the job, must admit I haven't taken the trouble to go on over to the Kaspersky forums to see if we are not the only ones!

Removing Kaspersky Internet Suite worked!
Hi Steve:

After removing KIS 2010 my folder timing issue resolved itself. Everything is as snappy as it was before installing Kaspersky. I've thrown Avast on the PC for the time being, hoping that the folks at Kaspersky will have a fix soon.

Thanks for the advice. Cheers!
