Windows 7 will not install
Hi there

I am trying to install an OEM version of Windows 7 on to my Vista laptop. I have checked compatibility and that is all OK. When I install the disc I get the opening screen and select 'Install Windows 7'. The screen goes to the Windows 7 background with the words 'Setup is copying temporary files' after about 30 secs these words change to 'Setup is starting'. After another 30 seconds the screen returns to my Vista desktop with the start screen again.

I have disabled all firewalls, anti-virus etc but still the same, I have even tried installing in Safe mode.

has anyone any ideas

Thanks

Graham

If setup does not continue when you restart the computer,
then you probably have a system builders oem disk that
is not capable of doing an upgrade install, only a clean install.
You would need to boot to the disk and run setup from there.
Save anything you want to keep first.
It will wipe the data on the drive.

Yes you're correct, I foolishly have purchased an 'OEM System Builder Pack', as you can tell I'm a novice!! I do not have a problem with backing up all the data on the laptop so shall attempt to go ahead with this. Reading the info with the software it mentions using an OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK), is this something I need to be aware of ar can I, as you suggest just boot up from the DVD

Should be able to just boot and install.
You will need to download the hardware drivers
from the laptop manufacturers website and install
them after installing windows.
